Throughout high school I was never asked to write anything other than a persuasive or informative essay. These essays focus on facts and are used to persuade the reader to believe in your argument. Because of this I experienced a few challenges with writing my memoir. Dialogue was one of my biggest challenges, learning how to correctly format and incorporate it was difficult. With help from the documents online posted to D2L, I was able to affectively incorporate dialogue into my paper, “Hurry throw me a towel! The water is freezing!’ he yells while running over to where I am sitting.” I learned a new paragraph is need whenever dialogue is used to show someone is talking. The use of internal dialogue was also something I learned to do, this showed the reader my thoughts within the memory. Although the drafting phase is relatively the same from paper to paper, I struggled with it in the memoir. I had trouble with thinking of a memory to write about, and figuring out what to include and not to include. Although there were somethings that I struggled with when writing my memoir there were also things that remained the same from previous …show more content…
I learned how to properly incorporate dialogue into my paragraphs. I also learned that you need to take in consideration the audience reading the paper. By looking at your memory from an outside perspective you are making sure to include others who are unfamiliar with the topic. This can apply across all my other writings because now I am more aware of the reader. I also learned good writing differs from style of papers, in a memoir it is acceptable to use I, you, me… which is not the same for informative or persuasive essay. A well written memoir has to include I because it is a first-person encounter. This will help me with future papers that are to be written in first

I appreciate receiving constructive feedback, since this criticism is valuable for me improving from my mistakes. Recently, I had been a leader of a group with whom I had worked on developing a new soda brand, for our entry in the Coca Cola sponsored, World Series of Innovation Competition. Being leader of this team, I encouraged my team to be open and give me their best suggestions. In this process I received positive criticism for my approach in leadership, feedback that I can apply to become a better leader. My group informed me that I took too much initiative to complete the unfinished tasks of some participants, rather than encouraging them to do this work themselves.…

‘Just one hour of this and you can go back to sleep’ was the phrase I groggily repeated to myself as I got ready to register for my freshman year of high school. Had I known that the mountain of paperwork I was about to fill out that late July morning would ultimately lead to me finding my passion, I would have definitely been a lot more enthusiastic. I traded all my information for my schedule, only to realize that there was one slight problem: P.E. was on my list of courses for the year. Physical education? I sought out my counselor immediately to fix this quandary.…

In order to write a Literacy Narrative, you must first choose one specific moment or topic that you think is very significant to you or interest you. The first thing I do when it comes to writing is that I make my own space. I make sure I stay in a quiet room where I am able to think, focus, and concentrate on my writing. Then I start recapping my moments, and just start writing whatever comes to my mind to express my words and thoughts through writing. After a while, I take a few breaks in between where I get myself a little snack or a drink and then later on, I start working on my paper.…

Many books claim to contain the secrets of becoming a good writer. Some are written by academics, others by prize-winning writers, and it is often difficult to decide which are worth reading. In 2000, bestselling author Stephen King took his own stab at it (King’s usual subject matter forces me to use that clichéd metaphor), publishing nearly 300 pages of advice for aspiring writers under the tile On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft . King acknowledges almost immediately that “most books about writing are filled with bullshit” (page ix), yet he somehow manages to avoid that fate.…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

I was honestly proud of myself when I wrote the memoir essay because I had never written one or even heard of a memoir before. So when I was given the assignment to write one, I was taken back at first but up for the challenge. Again, I am not a fan or lover of writing, but I knew I could write about a time that changed my life and keep it short. Not writing about the events leading up to it, just the moment it happened. I also liked the fact that there were no citations in the writing.…
