Now here I am writing a captain’s letter. In thinking of this draft I was thinking about my strengths and characteristics scrutinizing which ones I look for in a captain. I believe that out if all my traits my one that truly outshines the others is my ability to push my limit and improve because of it. I am completely aware of my current ability level and know I'm not the best on the team, however I gain nothing by comparing myself to others and improvement is where I see results. I look at the underclassmen and those struggling in workouts not in a way that's demeaning, but in a way that sees the potential they have to improve the future of the team. I do this, and …show more content…
I was devastated after this race, just the fact that I had no excuses and I tried what I had thought to be my hardest. From then on I changed, I worked. My summer training schedule I remember looking at it and seeing “A Group milage” and being in C group the year before I was hesitant, but I knew that's exactly what I was going to be doing. Junior year of Cross Country I was the 18:30 runner of the team which was respectable in my opinion at the time, but I was persistent in the fact that I did not want to be placed in that B group and again I ended the season unsatisfied. This year I got the schedule for summer training and everyone kept saying to me, “I think you could be top 7 this year.” always enthusiastic after seeing an excellent track season out of me. This year though I’m not excluding myself though, I’m not a top 7 runner, I am a top 5, a scoring

I worked hard throughout the year by managing my other commitments such as school and extracurricular activities while really focusing on my top event in rodeo: barrel racing. Sometimes hard work is not the only thing that leads to success. Luck also plays a role, and bad luck struck at state finals when I knocked over a barrel resulting in a five second penalty, which knocked me out of placing. To make the heartbreak worse, my original time without the time penalty would have awarded me first place for the day. Because of this one run, I missed the cut off for the third day by one placing.…

As I step into the Ambassador role, I will bring my team-leader mentality and strong work ethic acquired from three years of experience as the captain of both the girls Varsity Boardercross (snowboarding) team and the girls Varsity Lacrosse team. My hard working nature helped me receive my Varsity letters for Boardercross and Lacrosse as a high school freshman, quickly accelerating to leadership positions as a sophomore. I believe my most powerful leadership attribute shines through situational leadership within a group or team. The ability to quickly assess a situation and then lead one’s peers accordingly is not an easily taught skill. (Insert?…

As I approached my senior year I anticipated becoming a team captain of the cross country girls team, one who pushes the girls, cheers them on during practices and races, and comforts them in their hard times. The team captains I had my other three years inspired me to be better by encouraging me to run faster, giving me quotes before meets, cheering me on at races, and becoming some of my best friends. I looked up to them as a shining example and knew I wanted to carry on the team captain tradition as a dedicated, inspirational, and caring team captain. The opportunity for me to be a team captain came last summer when my cross country coach, Coach Corry, asked me to be a captain as a leader, runner, and example of daily dedication. I enjoyed planning activities for the cross country girls…

I finished second to last in thirty minutes. In one short cross country season, my coach inspired me to keep at it, and work hard. I ended the season 35 pounds lighter, 14 minutes faster, and for the first time so proud of my accomplishments that the sting of the auditorium experience almost faded.
