Writers Are Avid Readers

Writers are avid readers. Famous writers from Lord Acton to Stephen King have echoed variations of this sentence. Every established and would-be writer is aware that reading is important to writing. For a long time, I believed that writers are readers because reading exposes you to:

different writing voices till you develop yours many plots and story writing formats.

Reading also helps your grammar, sentence structure and more. Reading has many benefits for writers. But these aren't "the secret reason" why writers are avid readers.

The secret reason why writers are avid readers is because they need to constantly replace the worlds they put on paper with others.

Sounds incredulous, right? Just hold your doubting horses for a moment
