Writer Reflection
I researched and worked on Amy Tan. Before i did this project i had read “ Rules of the Game “, but i didn’t know Tan was the writer of it. I got better at researching, because i learned to look on more than one site for answers. I feel like this piece of work i didn’t try much at first, but eventually i came around and i’m glad i picked Amy Tan. A part i particularly loved is how she uses her relationship with her mom in a lot of her work. I think this work shows how i learn, because i do better when i work alone and are able to research things. My goal was to learn more about amy , how she was a writer , and her personality. I feel like i accomplished that goal. I say this because i learned so much about Amy Tan that i never

Coming into English 101, I really did not know what to expect. This was my first college writing class so I had no idea what it was going to be like. In high school I would have considered myself to be a decent writer, not the best or not the worst. I would never impress anyone with my writing skills but I could still come across as educated on my topic.…

Sitting in the broad room with the buttery afternoon sunlight alighting upon the bookshelves, a soft voice behind me asks me to think aloud as I work with a writing scenario. I was supposed to be interviewing her, but she has turned the tables on me to think on my feet to see how I would begin the very article I am writing now. She poses questions like: Where will I start? What is the purpose of the article? Who is my audience?…

Reflective writing as a genre allows for a combination of personal reflection and critical thinking all intertwined into one. I turned my reflection essay into a new reflection that focused on a different level of the education system that would allow for me to reflect on my first semester of college to back up my allegations against the school system. When attempting to revise my essay in a new way I reread my old one and found an interesting theme screaming out of the paper. It was saying, “high school and Regents did not prepare me for college.” I took the idea a little further and expanded it to the SAT, that is a similar testing style to Regents, that similarly did not prepare me for college, and through research I found that income status…

The statement by Nick Stockton refers to the brain's ability to compile and store information that then is retrieved at a later time. For example, students may walk to their next class despite not actively thinking where they are going. However, this kind of generalization is not completely accurate and can skip over details that are irrelevant to the overarching meaning of whatever is being recalled. Such oversight is a contributing factor to peoples' inability to recognize typos. The brain is more concerned about connecting ideas and conveying meaning than it is with meticulously following every character or word.…

Portrait of a Writer As I have mentioned in previous essays, I much prefer reading to writing. However, once I get my flow going, I am able to write some well thought out essays. I think the main thing that I see when I look at myself as a writer is why I write. As far back as I can remember, I have never written anything for fun, never had a journal or anything like that. Basically, I only write when I have to.…

Editing Reflection: Comparing and Contrasting Experiences Discussion This editing assignment has taught me a lot about my own quality of writing. It was very interesting to edit one of my classmates’ papers, to get a sense of what their writing style is like and learn about my own writing style, through comparing and contrasting our papers: what works, and what aspects need adjusting in future papers. I recognized the importance of headings and simple APA components, as it makes it that much easier to follow along, while understanding what is going to be discussed, and what is coming up next. The paper I edited, did not have any headings…

The piece of writing used for the writing squib was from a journal entry on July 18th 2016. This time for me marks a museum entrance that left me forever moved by the story of Anne Frank and the secret annex. The writing on this day was to take the place of the camera I would have used and wanted to document but was not permitted to do so. The next best thing was pen and paper so I entered with the look of seeking answers to questions never even imagined. I started off the day meeting my professor a half an hour late as I lost my way to biking to the house on Princegrattchen St where the Frank family went into hiding.…

I am very thankful for taking this course as I feel I have vastly improved in multiple areas of my communication. I had never taken a course that involved writing a paper and then presenting a speech on it to the class. It was either one or the other, not both. That is what intrigued me to take this course before the semester started. For myself great strides were made in my ability to convince readers through the toulmin model, learned in this course.…

A Journey into the Mind of a Writer As I walked into her room filled with noisy students, I reminisced about the memories I had in her class. I made my way to my old desk, sat in it, and remembered the time when I fell on my butt because my friend pulled my chair out from under me. I also remembered the time when I tripped on a backpack and hit my back against the closet, causing all the trophies that were showcased on top of it to wobble, which almost fell on my head. I started to chuckle, but I stopped when my subject, who was about four foot ten and filled with sass, walked in the room.…

Reflection Essay I must confess that I’m most definitely not the Best Writer in the world, but I’m probably close to gold in Best Procrastinator. I haven’t completed as much, or tried as hard as I could have this semester, and now I’m paying for it. If staying up all night writing has taught me anything, it’s that you genuinely can’t expect your best work to be an assignment that you squeezed out in less than two days, although you can definitely try. I can try and tell myself that I will apply myself next semester, but chances are, I’ll probably do the exact same thing I did this semester.…
