She abandoned her Ojibwe beliefs and converted to Catholicism, which may be good after all the things that have happened recently involving her. Pauline had a child with the aid of Bernadette because there were some birth complications. Pauline stayed with Fleur for a little which indicates that Fleur put the past behind her and took responsibility of Pauline when she was having a tough time. In return, Pauline helped Fleur give birth to her child, although she made a few mistakes during the process. Lulu being very brave bundled up for the cold and ran to their grandparents house to get help for Fleur. Pauline followed Fleur down a path which ended up to be similar to a Heaven where she sees all the men from Argus along with relatives of hers. When they returned, Fleur handed Eli a box containing their deceased newborn child, and Eli tied the box in a tree as a burial. Margaret blamed Pauline for the death and got very upset with her. Lulu got very ill from frostbite and Father Damien brought a doctor when he heard of the news, but Nanapush refused the help and was able to nurse Lulu back to health
