The Capitol building, the place where representatives from the great and vast United States of America. The place where the voices and ideas of all American citizens are heard and bills are presented to Congress to be passed into law. The founding fathers created Congress in its current manifestation in 1787. Congress has been creating law ever since then and worked with a diverse and changing population to work for the good of the whole. The Congressional branch of the American federal government is very complex with many powers, responsibilities, and many people to help decide and carry out its work. Congress gathers the collective ideas and opinions of the American people to create the ideal legislative body. Congress has many powers granted to them by the Constitution in the Federal Government. Congress’ main and greatest power is the power to make laws. The laws put in place by Congress affect the entire nation as a whole, and even other countries if the law affects foreign relations. Another major power of Congress is the official declaration of war. Congress has only actually declared war 11 times. The head of the House is the Speaker of the House, who represents all Americans and directs the workings of the House as a whole. The leader of the Senate is the Vice President, who presides over the Senate and uses his vote to break a tie in a vote for the passing of a bill into law.
