Text messages, social media posts, and e-mails, are all modes of communication that typically rely entirely on written words. It’s hard to read emotions and other subtle things like sarcasm through text, but if you write well, you’ll convey your meaning better. That is why writing is a big part of everyone’s life.

Reading and writing is important, it is often integrated by having students write about their reading because it supports students to reflect deeper on what they read. My college experience so far is very different compared to high school because there is more work given and there are higher expectations. Therefore, my goals for this course is to demonstrate knowledge, analyze, interpreting essays, and developing ideas. One of my weaknesses is organizing my paper because, I have a difficult time not knowing how to begin my essay. I want my writing to flow more. Sometimes, I go overboard with punctuation and my sentence structure is weak. I have difficulty understanding compound and complex sentences. So, I hope to be able to improve and strengthen these tasks. At the end of the day, writing is all around us and it is needed in every career we choose. However, the main point is colleges should produce writers who can actually use writing as a source for their future jobs and the questions is how can they do that? For example, I want to major in biology. Even though I major in biology, writing would be important to become more successful in my future career. One good way would be giving students an assignment where they require them to write papers on subjects of their choice that have something to do with biology.…

There has been no sleeping in class or slacking off this year, I’m lucky enough to take a college course a year early and at a better price, and I’m not going to waste it. I’ve learned a lot this semester, including but not limited to: identifying how exactly the author’s purpose and audience determines effective writing, developing pieces of writing though a process of planning, revising, and drafting, compose an organized essay with clear points and main ideas, used appropriate tone and formality, critiqued writing, and finally how to grasp the MLA format. My writing has improved through the concepts I have learned this semester.…

During my first year at Spelman College, I have not necessarily acquired any new writing skills. However, I have definitely sharpened three imperative writing skills, including: forming my ideas, reasoning, and synthesis (based on readings and discussions) to develop the content of my essays, integrating sources and evidence that corroborate my beliefs, and making my writing more clear and concise. In addition, I still stand in the process of learning to write well under the pressure of time constraints. To illustrate my points, At Spelman, I have been required to read and discuss for every single class I have enrolled in.…

My approach to reading has changed over the semester. Before this class, I would just read without taking notes. When I look up the difficult word, I would find the closest appropriate definition.…

From the Mesopotamian civilization to the present day civilization, writing has taken a place of importance in our daily lives; something I have always struggled with. Through school the most difficult subject that I have always struggled with is English. Growing up my first language was Spanish due to the fact that my parents do know much English. My parents were never able to read to me in English preventing me from hearing and seeing the English language; it was not until I entered elementary school that I was exposed to English. This has contributed to my difficulties in English courses throughout my education.…
