The President, the Vice President, and the Cabinet comprise the Executive branch of the government. The President acts as head of state and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. The President is responsible for executing and implementing the laws written by Congress and appoints the heads of the federal agencies, including the Cabinet. The Vice President is also part of the Executive Branch, ready to step into the role of President should the need arise.
The Cabinet and independent federal agencies are responsible for the day-to-day oversight and administration of federal laws. This is also the branch that consists of the department of justice, the department of defense, the department of education, environmental protection agency and many more. The Executive Branch is also in charge of regulating laws and giving certain instructions on how something must be done.

The Judicial Branch makes sure that laws are constitutional. This branch has the final word on cases and laws. The Judicial branch can override a law that has already been signed by the President. The Supreme Court chooses cases and they decide what punishments to give to those people. The Judicial Branch is the final place for a law to be checked. They also decide cases involving State’s rights. Lastly, this branch checks the power of the Legislative and Executive branches. Federal judges can only be removed through impeachment by the House of Representatives and conviction in the Senate.
