“ By 1914 laws effectively created two separate societies; one black and one white.” Black people were targeted during this time, because they had just received some freedom, but the whites did not like it. So during this time they had segregated schools, bathrooms, and other facilities, but they were not ever the same. The white schools always had new books and a nice building, while the black schools had old books and were outside or were in poorly outhouses. Also the bathrooms were unfair whites had the nice clean bathrooms, while the blacks had the small dirty ones. These were some of the ways that Article 5 was violated during the Jim Crow Laws.
All in all, During the Book Night and the Jim Crow Laws they both had examples of breaking the Fifth Article.“ No one shall be subjected to torture, or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.” The two topics provided many examples of breaking the Fifth Article in a sense that it makes humanity look back at the past. And in doing so it makes us realize how much we have changed from our past. And it makes us make sure to never repeat the same mistakes that happened back
