“Jimmy, it’s time for bed! Come on! I’ll read you a story before you fall asleep.” Jimmy’s mother announced. “Okay!” Jimmy ran up the stairs and into his room, collapsing on his bed. “Mommy, will you tuck me in before you read, please!!” Little Jimmy hollered. “Of course, sweetie!” jimmy’s mom replied while pulling his Avenger’s themed comforter up and over him, until he was nice and cozy. “Ready?” she said enthusiastically “Ready!” he replied, animatedly. Once in a great, great while, there is a baby animal born that is oh so much tinier than the rest! In this particular story, it’s a little bunny named Teeny. Teeny is the teeniest, tiniest of all his brothers and sisters, which is not very exciting to him, but it is awfully amusing to …show more content…
Teeny’s mom asked why he wouldn’t go play with the other bunnies and she said that Teeny was getting to old to walk with his Mom to school now. Teeny said, “Mom, I may be older now, but I still haven’t grown any. I’m just as tiny as I’ve always been, and that’s not changing; no one liked me before and no one likes me now.” Teeny’s mom told him to just go on over there and try it out, and so he did, because Teeny always listens to his Mom. Teeny hopped on over there and none of the other bunnies turned around to pay any attention to him, or maybe they just didn’t realize he was there. “Hey guys, it’s Teeny! Can I hop to school with you?” Teeny said with all his might, hoping it would get their attention… still, no response and they all hopped off without him. Teeny’s tiny heart sunk, even further down than it already was and he slowly hopped on toward school, taking a different route than the other bunnies. “Mom, why doesn’t anybody want to be friends with Teeny? He seems so sweet and cute; I’d be friends with Teeny, if he was real!” Jimmy exclaimed. “Well, let me keep on reading, and we’ll find out who Teeny’s friend will be!” his mom answered, …show more content…
Jimmy’s mom began to explain, because she already knew the expression… “So, Jimmy, there’s quite a few lessons to learn from that story… do you know any?” “Well, well! Don’t judge people from what they look like on the outside! And be friends with everyone!” Jimmy shouted enthusiastically. “Yes, that’s very true. But you don’t necessarily have to be friends with everyone, just don’t treat other people poorly… treat them how you want to be treated… like how would something you do make that person feel.” And by the time Jimmy’s mom finished explaining the meanings to him, Jimmy had already fallen sound asleep, hopefully taken in what he had

Scout's Empathy "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view" (Lee 39). Atticus' quote in the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee teaches Scout to not judge a person because of their actions until you have put yourself in their shoes. Various examples in the book show how people react in a situation that they may not understand or agree with. For example, when Miss Caroline doesn't understand that Walter is poor and when Scout watches Walter pours molasses all over his food. Experiences can teach a person to react with empathy rather than judging them incorrectly.…

To live with sympathy and to understand others are two major keys in to trying to figure out or getting to know someone. This statement ties in with the quote in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, once said by Atticus, “You never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them.” The quote was said to Scout because she isn’t quite old enough to understand the world and people’s feelings yet. By the end of the book she starts to understand it all and puts all the events together to finally comprehend the meaning of actually knowing someone. Through the use of symbolism and point of view Harper Lee proves that people aren’t always what they seem.…
