Write An Essay On Fishing And Reels

Fisherman used to have only a rod and reel combo, since the sport has grown there are onshore setups, offshore setups, and combination setups. Onshore setups are made for fishing from the land, and mostly in ponds. If there is a reel for ponds, then it should not be taken to the lake because the gears will rust from the salt in the water. When fishing had not become popular yet, fisherman used to stick with one pole, and it would only last them a little while because they were used in improper conditions. Onshore setups are usually a bait caster reel and a six to seven-foot rod. Another issue back then was that fisherman were targeting many species some of which put too much stress on the rod and reel. Now, there are many rod and reels …show more content…
The reel on an offshore rod would be very different than what fisherman used a long time ago. The reel on an offshore rod is a lot stronger than both onshore and combination reels. The reel weighs about ten pounds compared to a reel that weighed 2-3 back when fishing first started. An offshore reel can fit sometimes up to 1000 yards of line onto it. Offshore reels are also now equipped with a very heavy drag system, which means it can take more resistance. If a shark was on an onshore reel, it would nearly be impossible to reel in because the shark would take more line than you have. Even though many fishermen have switched to specific rod and reels that fit the targeted fish, there are still combination setups. A combo setup is a cheap rod and reel that is for starters. The rod is five-six feet, and the reel is very small. This rod and reel is for targeting smaller fish, and would not be able to handle a fish over fifty pounds. The rod compared to the others is that it is very bendy, and the reel is very tiny and can hold about 100-200 yards max. Although it is not required to have a rod and reel that fits the water that is being fished, a rod and reel that fits the waters suitability will be the best purchase because you will get the most time

But if you use braid, make sure you use a 3 or 4 foot mono or flourocarbon leader of at least 40 pound test. Shark fishing has become even more popular. However the decline in the populations has brought some concern, from the over fishing. With so many people going out and fishing for sharks, there doesn’t seem to be a way for sharks to recover their numbers in time with the rise of fishing. Population numbers were at alarming low, but as of recent years, the population has slowly been recovering, especially off of the east coast. The NOAA( National Oceanic And Atmoshereic Administration) had this to say on the matter recently, "We've seen an increase in the number of sharks in every survey since 2001; that reflects management efforts to conserve the populations of various shark species.”…
