Bismuth is located on period 6 of the Periodic Table and is in group number 15, the Pnictogens and has 5 valence electrons. Other elements in this family include nitrogen, antimony, arsenic, phosphorus, and ununpentium. All of these elements share a similar electron configuration pattern. Bismuth is used medicine, such as Pepto Bismol (hence the name), cosmetics, and is usually mixed with other metals for many other uses. Bismuth (and its salts) isn't a very toxic metal in the environment but if swallowed could induce to very mild kidney and liver damage. The only thing I could really say negative about bismuth is that it helps to make up Pepto Bismol which I honestly can't stand the taste
