You can find out if you have the gene, but Doctors won’t know if you will display the traits. Alzheimer’s is still a mystery to doctors and they are still trying to figure out how it works. Alzheimer’s is normally detected by family members. They might notice some of the symptoms. In some cases family members can let the disease slip by and classify the symptoms under old age (alz.org, 2009). When diagnosing, doctors look at past medical history. They rule out other diseases and do a number of brain testing. They also talk with family and friends to get a sense of how the patient behaves (Mayo Clinic Staff,
