She had also picked up a puppy that she decided to name Jak, who had also been trapped on the island and had decided to follow her. Krista was walking for about three hours and dusk was falling so she decided to set up camp and managed to find a small cabin that is only visible to people who are in need of a place to stay.

As she was prepping everything for bed Krista realized that both Jak and herself are hungry and didn't have any food. So she decided to call out the name Morty and suddenly in a flash of muted colors a wolflike dog appeared and Krista regained some of her memories of the dog as a puppy and how she had found him. So instead she went to try to scrounge up some food by asking nearby homes or hunting. As she was walking down the road, she came across a couple police officers. In an idealistic world, mourning is regularly the first reaction to the loss of a loved one. Every griever has to go through the 5 stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. However, it is possible that one may get stuck at a stage, thus being unable to move on to the next stage. Consequently, some people may develop “the tendency to cling obsessively to the memories of the past, while ignoring the complexities of the present” (Branach-Kallas, 60), meaning to cling on the memories of the past while ignoring their present state. Repressing grief is harmful to the human mind, and ultimately leads to deep feelings of sorrow and misery for oneself.…

In my speech, I will be describing the trials and triumphs of solitude, and the bittersweetness that come after. In both The Diary of Anne Frank and Island of the Blue Dolphins, there is a time of isolation with both times of optimism, and also pessimism. In both Island of the Blue Dolphins and The Diary of Anne Frank, the book starts off with an average girl of her time and place without anything to write a book about, but then their lives take a turn for the worst. In Island of the Blue Dolphins, Karana, the main character, loses her father in a unnecessary battle over otter pelts and what is a fair share.…

The story Victory Lap by George Saunders is ambiguous and has many unexpected twists. Through the characters’ thoughts, it is revealed that who they appear to be isn’t always who they turn out to be. The story starts off slightly confusing, as it begins in the mind of Alison Pope. The first few paragraphs suggest that the story is about a young girl pretending to be a princess, until her thoughts change to her dance recital, then to her family, and many other things. It then becomes clear that Alison Pope is a young, teenage girl who has a lot of thoughts running through her head at any moment in the day.…
