It was fourth grade. My mom just started letting my brother and I ride our bikes to school, but we had to ride with friends. It was the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend. We were on our way home and we were almost there. Then, as we were proceeding down the steepest hill in our neighborhood, a car appeared. Since we were not all the way to the side of the road, we began to move over. Everyone moved over fine, except me. In the process of moving over, my front tire struck a pothole. That would have been okay, except my back tire kept driving forward. Since my rear tire kept spinning, I ended up falling off my bike- onto a curb and missing the grass by about two feet. I was in denial that I was in a great deal of pain. My brain prevented me from noticing it. My brother called my dad to come pick us up since my bike was destroyed from crashing- to the point where it was unrideable. I probably would have ridden it home if it wasn’t wrecked since I didn’t believe that I was I was in pain. Once we arrived home, my dad took a closer examination of me. I had acquired cuts and scrapes, including a deep one on my chin, and my right arm was undoubtedly swollen. I refused …show more content…
Once I had been examined and x-rayed, I was placed into a room. The orthopedic doctor that was at that hospital reviewed my x-rays and determined that it was a severe enough break to have someone from Children’s Hospital in Chicago come to the hospital I was at. Once the doctor from Chicago had had enough time to study my scans and get to the hospital, he said that he wanted to put me under anesthesia to put my cast on. The cast was not a normal soft cast, there was a metal plate placed within it to try and push my bone back into place without needing surgery. While under, they placed skin glue on my chin to heal the deep cut I received- if they would have done stitches, I would still have the
