Wrestling Observation

The individual I observed was a varsity wrestler from Socastee high school. When I was observing the whole practice he was the one wrestler who stood out to me the most. He was a returning wrestler from the 2 past year and it was finally his time to rise in the spot light. From the way it looked he has matured a lot since last year when the team was full of senior leader. He also looks like he has developed a lot physically with additional muscle gains and height. The wrestler I observed told me grew 2 inch’s over the past summer and has been lifting weights. From my calculation the cause of the grow spurt was the act of puberty due to rapid to result in physical development. He also told me has been a very strict nutritional diet due to the …show more content…
When he did our coach approached him in a respectful manner trying to teach him the correct way to execute the wrestling technique, but he seemed very embarrassed and became very ignorant when the coach was attempting to help him. He never had encounter these problem till this year when he took the “leader” role. This showed me that has encountering development in the cognitive stage by the way he kept question authority (our coach) that he performed the move correctly. A sign of cognitive growth I saw in the varsity wrestler was when I asked him what his future plan with the sport of wrestling was. The wrestler responded very quickly and told me that he wants to wrestle at the next level and then told me how he was going to achieve his goal in a very confident tone. The sign of cognitive growth I saw was that he started making long-term plans for his self with obtainable goals. One of the solutions I though of to encourage cognitive growth in the wrestler I observed was by challenging him think about possibilities for the future or by trying to assist him in re-evaluating poor

It is my belief that the growth may fall into the category of a neoplastic condition (White et. al 2012: 452). Though, it could easily be argued the growth is sort of infectious disease it is unlikely. Most infectious diseases live little trace of their presence on the skeletal structure. However, chronic diseases do, in fact, leave evidence on bone so it would not be impossible for the growth to be the result of something infectious (White et.…

He also had Dyslexia which made it worse for him and gave the kids another thing to bully him with. When he was in middle school he was approached by the wrestling schools wrestling coach asking if he would like to join the wrestling team because they needed a wrestler who was big to fill there 170 weight class. Within the writing “My Short-Lived Career as a Female Wrestler” by Megan Koester is a very interesting and meaningful piece that talks about how things can be used to your advantage. Throughout the piece the author talks about how she was a female wrestler, why she was one, and why she felt that she was being given everything as a reward for doing nothing. Megan Koester talks about what she did throughout her wrestling career and why she believes she didn’t deserve the special treatment. She says this because she only really had three people in her weight class and still received a bronze metal. She also received food of her choice just for doing something that her dad wanted her to do.…

Reading the story about the one legged wrestler (Anthony Robles), it got my interested about other athletes that have had success while having some type of physical disadvantage. What really caught my interest, and a question that I wanted to explore on was Have there been any other instances in sports where having a physical disadvantage is considered cheating some people’s eyes. In Anthony robles case they said that his upper body was a lot bigger then all of the people in his weight class, and that was because he was missing a limb. Another knock against him was that wrestler rely on muscle memory to compete in their matches. Wrestling two legged people their whole life, they are use to doing certain things.…

The first day I came in I looked around the room and tried to spot the more experienced wrestlers, from the beginner wrestlers. Once I noticed who needed a specific one on one partner or was not quite understanding a move, I would go wrestle with them and teach them slowly until they understood the movement. Only after a couple try's would the kids learn the move. I believe wrestling sometimes needs to be taught one on one because not everyone can jump right into the movement, yet they have to walk threw it slowly until they fully understand what to do and feel the muscle connection of the movement. For example the first week of practice I was teaching Robbie how to do a switch from bottom position, when while he was doing the sit out just fine, he wasn't putting his hand in the right place when he would hit the switch (which would be in between my legs) rather he would put his hand to the outside of my leg and wasn't hitting the switch properly.…

Unlike other sports you can literally not be good at wrestling if you are not mentally tough. Now what do I mean by the term mentally tough? Mentally tough means you are able to push past what your mind may be telling you or what your body feels like and is telling you. That even when you have 30 yards left to sprint and your brain and body say you can no longer go you push through and keep going. You rise early to go workout instead of staying in to sleep because you are tired.…

Interview on African American athlete I interviewed a high school classmate I had a couple years back. He was a standout high school star and had skills like a professional NFL Player. He was 5’10, muscular build, and 220lbs and literally carried the team on his back during his time at Hendrickson High school. It was a surprise to see him because I haven’t seen in him a while and I had a friend set us up a meeting because of his busy schedule as Texas Tech football athlete.…

Wrestling takes guts and grit and many kids who compete at the tourney show this. You lean it, not just find it somewhere. Another example is people talk about what wrestlers have given up for the sport to be able to be good. Since the time of the Greeks and Romans, wrestlers have competed both on the battle field and at home to see who will win. Many sports advertise challenging competition similar to that of wrestling, but very few can follow through with these promises. This happens because these other sports do not build themselves on set standards such as mental and physical strength and technique. These important parts of wrestling have set it apart for centuries. As a wrestler, I know that these standards make wrestling not only a sport, but a lifestyle.…
