The first reason “The Perfect Storm” was more compelling was the word choice. I liked the variety of words used in the text of “The Perfect Storm” more than “The Wreck of the Hesperus”. The words in the text such as plunge, crests, stalls, and a lot of other words in my opinion show a lot more action. The words in the text make the story a lot more compelling. “The Wreck of the Hesperus” does not have as many interesting words, and overall loses my interest very much for this reason. “The Perfect Storm” has a lot of these words plus some which causes me to want to read “The Perfect Storm”.
Another reason “The Perfect Storm” was more compelling was because it faced on real events. The events in “The Perfect Storm” happened in real life. “The Perfect Storm” had a lot more compelling words and easy to follow text. “The Perfect Storm” also had structure that made it very easy to read. It also made it have a lot more detail. It went farther in depth on the events that happened and didn’t have you guessing like “The Wreck of the Hesperus” did. It had real life events and not the fictional events that “The Wreck of the Hesperus” did such as characters, events, and actions. It was a story which pulled me in right away and was not a poem.
