The intervention discussed this week is Wraparound Intensive Casemanagment. This technique is applied to a presenting problem concerning emotional and behavioral disturbances amongst youth. It is not unusual for children experiencing emotional and behavioral issues to be subjected to poor academic achievement, familial issues, and interaction with the juvenile justice system. There are many other options that could work to meet the need of this particular population, but Wraparound treatment planning offers a holistic approach. For example, a child struggling with school and exhibiting behavioral issues may meet with a therapist individually, work with a tutor individually, and school guidance counselor individually, however Wraparound …show more content…
(Lucille, Kelly, & Jesse 2010) used a three tiered system to identify the children for which Wraparound Intensive Casemanagment was vital for. Like stated above there are less intense approaches, but Wraparound case management is for the children who have utilized other services and are not progressing. It is always important for us all—in this profession—to use the least restrictive treatment approach. Wraparound services are not a necessity for all children. Some children will do well in family therapy, or individual counseling. This tier also incorporated the ‘check in-out system’, which is a an intervention where children check in with an adult in the morning, carry around a behavior sheet throughout the day for teachers to encourage and make comments, and then check out with an adult who has to look over and …show more content…
However, it was mentioned in the article that sometimes limitations may arise. There are many times when family members do not want to follow through with treatment, if they are not able to see behavioral progression immediately. Wraparound services are very demanding, because the child will be involved with intensive case management. This sometimes poses as a threat to working parents. Some parents may feel as if they do not have the time to use this practice, and some parents may feel as if it is a waste of time. Another issue that may arise is one that was brought up in the article: parents may not agree with the entire treatment plan, or may not like some of the professionals who play a part in the treatment team. Through experience, it is hard for a child to progress using the Wraparound approach when the family and professionals are not in congruence with each other. For example, if parents aren’t following through with the treatment plan, it may seem as if the treatment team has reached a dead end. It cannot be expressed enough, how important it is for all supports to communicate and work together. The Wraparound approach, should be taken literally: each support should wrap their understanding, attention, and patience around the children to help them through their presenting
