Financial Accounting Reflection Paper

I must admit, when I was enrolling for this semester and scrolling through the list of courses that I have left to complete my degree, Financial Accounting Theory did not jump out as one I was eager to enroll in. I have been in several financial accounting courses, and it was always the accounting regulation part that most puzzled me, so not surprisingly, I anticipated that this course would be a nightmare for me.

However, a few times, the members would just keep expressing themselves without listening because we were all under pressure at the end of the semester. This caused some negative feelings toward each other. Later, we tried to be open to each other and mirror each other’s feelings. Agreements were finally reached on the practicing issues. We used the Facebook group chatting and never delayed in responding to someone’s message, but we believed that face-to-face communication was more effective than email or other social media. Group practicing was ideal for relieving my nervousness on public speaking, and we always gave constructive responses to everyone’s performances. This was the first time I had experienced to presenting in front of business professionals, and I believed that these would always be the situations that I would face in my future career. By listening to other groups’ presentations, I recognised that I had to improve my ability to involve the audience. More importantly, the group presentation on the gender of a loan applicant and bank officer impressed me. The accounting department also has varieties of dimensions in political issues. The FIFA scandals and global financial crisis also gave me a deeper understanding of the association between accounting theories and our daily life. It made me realize that one of the goals of the theory in accounting discipline is to equip us with a well-defined body of knowledge that has been systematically accumulated, organized, and verified well enough to provide a frame of reference for future ethical and socially responsible

Freshman Composition has resulted in many sleepless nights and has been by far the most difficult class I have ever taken. The class is designed to get a student ready for college life and realize that everything is at a much faster pace with assignments being assigned daily. Throughout this portfolio it should be clear that in the beginning of the semester I had struggled in my writing and have progressively become better as a writer. Personally, the biggest accomplishment for me was to not procrastinate and gain greater word choice to put in my writing pieces. Having tons of work assigned to you, with all the homework from all other classes that a student has, can be difficult for a student to stay focused and get everything done, and that…

Introduction Looking back at my essays from my first semester in Composition I, I can definitely see that I have improved tremendously. My learning from my Composition II was not so much about learning concepts, but it was more about improving what I already learned last semester, and adding onto it. Compared to last semester, my learning this semester came from paying attention to details, following the rules, and adapting to a new teaching style. While last semester, my learning came from new concepts like ethos, pathos, logos and knowing what they are and how they work.…

Although I feel that I did an adequate job on the group project one of the most important skills that I desperately need to improve on is learning to present in front of an audience. We had two assignments this semester that revolved around speaking in front of our class, the first being a speech by ourselves and the second being the group presentation. I am a cheerleader, so being in front of crowds does not bother me but what makes me the most nervous is when I have to speak in front of others by reading something I have written or completed. In the group presentation I was not as nervous since I was not alone in speaking to the class, but on the speech I did I was overcome with anxiety. Being able to talk in front of others is my biggest setback, but I am certain that with enough practice, patience, and preparation I will be able to calmly give a speech over any subject that I am required to do.…

Accrual Accounting is a method of accounting in which economic consequences define transactions instead of cash flow consequences . Cash Accounting is a method in which cash flow consequences , rather than economic consequences, define transactions , that is , events are defined as cash transactions are recorded only when cash changes hands (Siegel &Yacht , 2009 ). Both Methods are believed to have been textually published by Pacioli in 1994 ,even though they began to be used by traders earlier in order to record and track economic activities and cash flow by the modern accounting technique age when Europe was flourishing in many regards and trade singularly . Accounting , through these two methods , helps perform the same functions as those performed by early traders , that is , keeping track economic transactions ( exchanges , cash in , cash out , with the proper timing ) .
