Effect of Staff Nurse Education Intervention on Wound Infections in
Adult Patients after Open Heart Surgery
Wound infections can occur in adult patients who have open heart surgery, whether via bacteria or virus. According to the Hussain, Mannan, and Ali (2012), “sternal and mediastinal infection is a serious complication of cardiac surgical procedures performed …show more content…
The risk factors for sternal wound infection for new reoperation are related to breast tissues in the female. The study in this article described multiple diseases related to sternal wound infection and evaluated the influence of CDC rating on the management (Dubert, et al., 2015). The design was a randomized clinical trial. The independent variable was an infection control team. The dependent variable was sternal wound infection and mediastinitis endocarditis. However, in another study, male sex is one of the “predictors of sternal and mediastinal infection in cardiac surgical patients” (Hussain, et al., 2012, p. 70). According to Hussain, et al., (2012), “the reason for male sex as an independent predictor is unclear. It may be that males tend to have increased tension on their sternal incision, which in turn leads to increased risk of sternal instability” (p. 71). This study was to identify the hazard factors for sternal and mediastinal infection in a group of heart surgical clients. It was also to analyze the results of recovery with secondary accretion (Hussain, et al., 2012). The design was randomized clinical trials. The independent variable is “secondary intention in cases were re-closure does not hold” (Hussain, et al., 2012, p. 70). The dependent variables are a sternal and mediastinal infection. It implemented via median …show more content…
