Would Abortion Be Morally Permissible?

When looking at the case of Alice there are circumstances in which aborting her pregnancy would be morally permissible. To determine when it’s acceptable for abortion, it is wise to look at the circumstances when they are unwanted pregnancies or the pregnancy would be putting the mother at risk of death. Within these scenarios it is also knowledgeable to take into consideration the woman’s’ condition or position. In the cases of unwanted pregnancies, abortion after a rape attack that resulted in a pregnancy would be warranted as it was against the woman’s will. In so, it is relative to the case of the burglar brought up by the philosopher Thomson. In the burglar scene, an individual leaves a window open in their house and in consequence a burglar enters the home (Thomson 272). Now the question is whether the burglar had a right to enter? This time the difference consists that the window is still open but is covered with a screen. However, the wind is still able to carry in the people seeds which implant themselves in the household and begin to grow (Thomson 272). In this case, it is important to notice that by covering a window, it is a form of protection from unwanted debris. This is similar to pregnancies that result from intercourse that had been originally protected through some use of contraceptive. If Alice had used a type of contraceptive (or multiple) to prevent pregnancy, then she had taken the right precautions to avoid pregnancy, whereas the only avoidable ways to being pregnant is through abstinence or an extreme procedure that could result in infertility which renders her ability to become pregnant in the future if she so chooses. Therefore she should not have to take on the responsibility of something that was unwanted and intentionally protected
