The rising action starts when the narrator recall the conversation of him and his mother, his mother told him to look after and take care Sonny before he participates in World War Two. But after the World War, he forgot his mother’s reminder until his mother’s death, the narrator and Sonny went to the funeral. The narrator asked what is Sonny’s dream occupation and future. Sonny told the narrator he wants to be a Jazz musician and play piano. But the narrator doesn’t agree as he believes that is not the best way for Sonny, so they both made an agreement, is that Sonny has to complete his studies and he is going to stay in the Isabel’s parents house (the wife of the narrator) so he could practice
