World War One Poster Analysis

Poster 33 Page 1 This poster does not depict what someone who would sign up to fight in the war would want to see. Seeing all the blood on the field conveys a since of weakness in the United States’ army. Also, the depiction of some of the soldiers not participating in the fight gives off the vibe that some soldiers are abused and are used in the fight because they are not as valuable as others. Seeing that poster gives of the feeling that participating would most like result in your death, which could be discouraging to many. Also, given that quite some people didn’t support the war effort which lead to the passage of the Espionage Act and Sedition Act to contempt these people, the blood imagery would help those in opposition to the war by saying all of these soldiers dying could have been avoided and is unnecessary.
Poster 69 Page 5 The words Learn-Earn are broad which encompasses an immense amount of interpretations. It elicits that joining the air force would teach you skills that you could use to earn money, or, it could mean that learning in the air force the necessary skills to win the war and earn your share in the nation’s glory as you were a part of the team who won the war, while other citizens just watched. Either way, it works to evoke a sense of accomplishment if you join, which could be appealing to many.

The addition of the smiling soldier who is holding a sandwich and cup of a hot beverage tries to show that every dollar makes a difference and it is small things that make our soldiers happy the most. Stimulating that small things are what soldiers are looking eases the burden of people having to donate a lot to the war, but giving that the United States’ population was above 100 million, a few dollar from every one would result in the huge amount needed to fund the
