World War II was heated by multiple factors. Some of these factors included the Treaty of Versailles, Japanese Expansion, Fascism, and Hitler. World War II officially began on September 1, 1939 and continued until September 2, 1945 (“Key”). In the beginning of the war, small arms, submachine guns, and rifles were used. In addition to guns, the hand grenade, flame thrower, and tanks were also included in the action. As the war continued, it was observed that these particular weapons needed advancements. The Manhattan Project was the team of scientists that helped the Allies pull off a victory. Advancements of nuclear weapons positively affected the Allies victory. Its main goal was to develop an atomic bomb. The United States wanted to be superior, meaning they wanted to be the first people to have an atomic bomb, so funding for the project was made higher (“History”). Leaders of the Manhattan Project included United States physicists Robert Oppenheimer and General Leslie Groves (“Key”). First, this team of scientists started extremely small, but as the bomb became more of a priority, more Unites States scientists became more involved in the action (“History”). All together there were approximately 200,000 scientists involved in the making (“History”). The Manhattan Project consisted of three production facilities (“Key”). One of the facilities was located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee (“Key”). The other two were located in Hanford, Washington and Los Alamos, New Mexico (“Key”). Oak Ridge was the location that provided scientists with the uranium element (“Key”). As stated by Albert Einstein, uranium was one of the critical ingredients in the formation of the atomic bomb. Plutonium was produced for new weapons, at the Hanford, Washington location (“Key”). With all the products manufactured at different locations, one location for all the products was built. Los Alamos in New Mexico was the location for all the manufactured products to be pieced together
