World War II was the largest and most catastrophic event in human history. There were two sides of the war; the Allies and the Axis (there was also the Axis- Occupied and Neutral). The Axis powers were made up of Germany, Japan, and Italy. The Allied countries included the Soviet Union, the United States, France, and Great Britain. One of the reasons World War II was caused was the rise of dictators like Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Benito Mussolini. Adolf Hitler, the Nazi dictator rose to power in 1933. Joseph Stalin, the dictator of the Soviet Union, assumed this role in 1924. Benito Mussolini became dictator of Italy in 1922. Two more reasons this event was caused were the Great Depression in Europe and the Treaty of Versailles. The Great Depression happened because of World War II, and it made the League of Nations unable to do anything about hitler ignoring the Treaty of Versailles. The Treaty of Versailles was created after World World I to punish Germany, but Hitler ignored it by taking land and sending out troops even though Germany was demilitarized.
