WWI was initiated by: Nationalism, Imperialism, and Militarism. Nationalism causes an an extreme passion for the nation you live in, which in turn causes you to attack anything that opposes it. Nationalism also makes the people come together as a whole and not allow themselves to be conquered. Practicing imperialism causes nations to go out and hunt for land to conquer, but after all land has been conquered nations conquer other nations. The imperialist lifestyle is one of war, but nations use it to obtain resources. Militarism, being the increase of armaments, is the main cause of tension.
