World War 1 was one of the biggest war in many countries including America. It First started when Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in 1914 at Austria (Willmott 41). Woodrow Wilson declared that America will be neutral but Germany declared war against America in spring of 1917; a Quarter of Americans had been born in Germany or had ancestors in Germany (Bausum 9; Bausum 11). Woodrow Wilson “We shall fight for the things which we have always carried nearest to our hearts until we make the world itself at last free.” (Bausum 8). It made a big impact on america’s boats because of when the Titanic Sank in 1911. When the United States joined the war in 1916, industry in America boosted. Industry producers had to keep on producing to help the war and United States. To produce more materials, new machines were developed to help the producers to meet the needs of the government and citizens. More employment opened for women and African-Americans during the war. During the war, most of the men that didn't go into war, women, and African-Americans migrated to the cities to find jobs. During world war 1 when industry boosted, the economy boosted. More previously unemployed citizens had jobs in United States. As the war ended, soldiers started to come home and industry production began to be slow, and there was barely any need for workers in the industry. Many women stopped working in the industry, but there were not enough jobs for soldiers returning home from Europe. The unemployment after the industry and economic prosperity started the coming Great Depression (Dean). World War 1 had a big impact on America mostly because the industry which processed towards the Great Depression. Jobs given to woman which helped pass the nineteenth amendment and a new kind of diplomacy and antiwar sentiment that affected America’s entrance into World War II (Strauchan 251). American public felt these effects, but they also lost many soldiers in the war and affected all of United States. America felt bad effects during the war but it wasn't like Europe.
