World War 1 Essay

World War 1 is one of the most well known wars, and the war that ultimately changed the meaning of war. However, the purpose of previous wars was to take another country 's land, but this war was different, the purpose of World War 1 became more of which country can kill the most people. On the other hand, with new technologies like machine guns, chemical bombs and trenches, the number of casualties increased and made the war last longer than expected. Also, the idea of going to war and fighting for your country in a heroic manner became a lie to some after WW1. As a result, World War 1 became a time of new technology and advancements, which made WW1 far more different and traumatizing than other wars, yet at the same time, these new technologies and advancements made World War 1 a very senseless war. The Big Three attended this meeting, Woodrow Wilson representing the U.S, wanted real lasting peace, George Clemenceau who represented France wanted severe punishment for Germany and wanted to take away Germany’s army, and David Lloyd George representing Britain just wanted money. At the Paris Peace Conference, the Treaty of Versailles is proposed, however America does not sign the treaty and Germany ends up being punished. In the Treaty of Versailles, Germany had to: accept guilt for WW1, pay for reparations, demilitarize, and give up some land. Additionally, after the Peace Paris Conference, Economic Depression formed globally, America had a Great Depression, and finally Great Britain no longer had power all around the world (6). This just shows that even after the Peace conference there was still no sign of peace, and Great Britain lost their world power even though they “technically” won the war.
