The first cause for world war one (WW1) was the alliance system. The alliance system was when countries made treaties and formed alliance with other countries for protection and resources from one another. The reason that this was a cause for world war 1 was because leading up to the war there had formed to two major alliances the triple entente, England, Russia and France, and the triple alliance, Germany Austria-Hungary (A-H) and Italy. This meant that Europe in 1914 was basically divided in to two sides that hated it each other so one thing could trigger the war because they had to help each other due to agreements and treaties. Militarism is when a country builds up their armies in order to defend themselves or attack other countries. The reason this was a cause for WW1 was because leading up to WW1, some leaders were building up their armies in case of a war but that cause other country to not be left behind, so countries was building up and up their armies and everyone was following. This mean before the war everyone was already with huge armies so everyone was on the brink of war. Leading up Germany had 2.2 million troops in standing armies and reserves, Russia had 1.2 million, France had 1.125 million, Italy 750,000, Austria-Hungary 810,000 and England a surprising 711,000 but they had 185 warships compared to the second highest germany with 97. Another reason this is a cause of WW1 is, Germany wanted their ‘Place in the Sun’ quoted by Kaiser Wilhelm, meaning they wanted to expand and sail over the world. This meant Kaiser had to new dreadnought to sail around with. These weren’t any ship these were the biggest around that, these meant that people feared germany and that germany was ready to attack a brought more threat of war.
