The category I selected is nature of God. The way each religion relates, or does not relate to their version of God was fascinating. However, the religion I found most fascinating in terms of the nature of their God was the Shinto religion. According to Shinto beliefs, there is not a singular God. Those following Shinto, believe in the concept of “Kami”. Kami is a spiritual essence that is present in many forms in nature including rivers, mountains and powerful forms like tornadoes (bbc.co.uk, 2009). Humans can also possess this spiritual essence. With so much pressure on society, religious matters seem to be a hot topic. The United States is facing unprecedented violence from the jihadist group ISIS. The goal of ISIS is to assert their authority through mass shootings and ruthless violence in order to create a state that abides by Islamic Law. ISIS believes that this spreading of Islamic Law is God’s will and it is their duty to carry it out (bbc.com). But, groups like ISIS are considered extremists and not the majority. Islam is a peaceful religion and no religion should be judged by their most extreme faithful. Unfortunately, there is a social stigma surrounding Muslims in the United States because of the ISIS violence. With compassion and understanding, we can come together as a society to put extremist groups like ISIS back in their
