The first thing I do when assigned a new writing assignment is look over the rubric to see what my essay should compose of. Once I Have done that I can select a specific topic that I want to write about. I like to just think about my essay and all of its components before I start to write anything on paper. If the topic involves research I will look it up to make sure this is what I want to write about. After that I write my ideas down on a piece of paper or make a small outline composing of the main topics of my body paragraphs in the essay. When I start the draft I think to myself what is an exciting way I can introduce my topic? It doesn’t always work out well, but as long as I include background information and a thesis I am satisfied with …show more content…
The first edit I made to all my papers was to fix the MLA heading, reverse indent my citations, and take out the websites from my bibliography. The next universal problem I had to fix was to get rid of all contractions, first and second person pronouns in the last two essays, and stay in past tense. With the music moment narrative I deleted some excess sentences that just fluffed the word count and added more description to in scene action. One of the biggest problems with this essay was the word choice and flow because it seemed like I was just trying to answer the questions in the prompt directly. To fix that I took out any phrase that was contained in the rubric and reword it to still answer the question and provide more selective detail to make the paper flow better. When revising for the Song Analysis Essay I went back and elaborated and addressed my rhetoric appeals which showed a more clear distinctions between the different covers of the song and the original. I started to read the whole essay and reword some sentence to clearly show the message I was trying to give off to the read. I also add more information and interpretive work to the paragraph addressing Elvis’s address the topics in the outline better. For the Mea Culpa essay I applied the same techniques for revision I did to the other essays. I went back and watched Michael Richard’s apology over to talk more specifically about what he was

It was the first essay I ever wrote in college and it was on a topic I never hard of, rhetorical analysis. I when I was writing it, I kept getting frustrated because I didn’t feel like it was my best work. I did a lot of research on it and with the help of the writing center and my Professor, Dr. Osterhaus, I came to the conclusion that a rhetorical analysis was not as foreign as I though it was. The best improvement I made on my paper was based on the feedback I received at the writing center.…

Before learning about the Fall for the Book assignment, I heard about the event through my Introduction to Woman and Gender Studies class. The upcoming topic that we were going to discuss in class was transgender women and men, so my professor encouraged my class to attend the event. *…

My writing process is similar to the typical high schooler, except like the typical high schooler I have no idea what my process is. Having to slow down and think about your process before writing can be complicated due to the fact that I am thinking about what I doing naturally. Hopefully I will be able to fully break down my process and use what I learn from that to improve my writing. My process starts with me focusing on a prompt whether it’s given to me or I have to create one myself.…

I chose to revise the first and forth essay. I chose these because they are the shortest essays. I know you wanted me to revise my research essay because I did not have parenthetical citations, but during my writing center visit I asked about those and I learned where they should be and how they should look. When I revised my papers I tried to think about the questions someone else who is not familiar with the topics would ask about my papers and I answered them.…

When entering college and finishing my first essay, I realized my process wasn’t good enough in order to write a good essay. When doing my first narrative and comparing my narrative to the article “Thirty-eight who saw murder,” my process was reading thoroughly over the article and writing a reading report of the reading which it was included in the beginning of my introduction as seen in the image below. Afterwards, I just started finishing my introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. In addition, when finishing my first draft I revised it as well as from my instructor as shown in the black marks below. From the individual conference with my instructor, it is shown in the image that I needed to fix almost my whole introduction.…

For the cause and effect essay, I chose the topic I did because I knew a lot about it and could elaborate the topic well to create a 5-6 page essay. Through all of the essays I wrote this semester, I learned a lot of new writing techniques and strategies that will help me when I attend college next fall. Although I gained much knowledge over the past few months I did struggle with a few things such as formulating a written thesis statement expressing my main point in the composition, producing rough drafts preliminary to the final draft, applying transition strategies to organize the entire composition cohesively and coherently, and overall practicing various prewriting strategies, such as thinking, brainstorming, listing, and…

Besides making my revision fit my new rhetorical situation, I also fixed all mistakes that were pointed out from my commentary. All feedback and criticism given in my major writing assignment were either changed or omitted form my creative revision. I choose the rhetorical situation of a parenting magazine because I felt as if my original commentary would fit in nicely. Any article that revolves around children will more than likely strike the attention of parents, and since mine was about child activities, it was an even better fit. I also wanted to revise my original assignment to a magazine article because I wanted to play around with the format, adding pictures, and making it look authentic.…

Over the course of this semester, this class has reshaped me as both a reader and a writer. It has helped me think more critically about work I read, and to analyze the reading for components of arguments, or to find bias in the piece I am reading. This class has developed my writing style, and has aided me with becoming a stronger writer. I am now able to write persuasively, while recognizing the apposing side’s point of view. Before I started this class I was terrible at writing persuasively, however, now that I have taken this class I have learned plenty of techniques that will help me with further argumentative pieces.…

“There is absolutely nothing to write about, school is either too easy to have problems or useless to try to solve them,” I thought as I read my writing prompt. The sheet of paper stated that too write about a time that I worked to solve a problem at school. The only events I could manage to think of were when the class had down time and solved a bug in a program, which wasn’t really school related, and having to present a paper, but that topic had been used for a paper in 7th grade. To avoid being called out for not writing, I started writing random sentences until the idea came to me to write about having to think of a topic to write about. The only issue with that is that I still couldn’t write.…

In the beginning, I looked at the different ways of preparing for a paper and one stuck out to me. I would write an outline of what I wanted to write about and then I would make sub-headings under each bulletin describing what each topic would talk about. I used this process more with my research papers than with the narrative essays because I could see what facts I needed to look up and which ones I already knew. For the non-research essays, I wrote the first sentence to every paragraph first. After that I would write an outline of what I wanted to talk about in each paragraph.…
