World Trade Towers Essay

Most people see the collapse of the World Trade Center as some sort of vacuum, wherein the towers fell solely because of the plains and every other thing surrounding the towers was somehow perfect and immune to criticism, especially the towers themselves. This is largely due to the immense tragedy that happened to the towers and the psychological scars they left on the United States, and while this somewhat naive view is understandable, it is largely mistaken in it’s understanding of the World Trade Center and its problems. Now, to use an example of why the designer of the towers should have strove to go beyond and why that is usually a good thing is the example of the Titanic, as is used in the book. At the time of its construction, the safety code for ships like the Titanic was not kept up to date with the burgeoning size of many of these vessels. Thus, the Titanic surpassed the code for ships of that size but did not have anywhere close to enough safety equipment to safely help the people of the ship who froze to death. This can be compared to the architects of the World Trade Center who performed the bare minimum safety in order to maximize profit while “fulfilling” safety standards, wherein to maximize profit they did what they needed to while not truly saving everyone they could, and ultimately contributing to the tragedy that took place at the World Trade
