My first experience there was a train wreck being mostly due to my inexperience with the immense coordination and teamwork required. As a healer, if I made even one mistake and let a crucial teammate die the encounter could be over in an instant. However, this is the type of challenge I craved. I began to prepare for the difficult bosses by researching their abilities and crafting extra potions for my teammates to give us every edge in the battle. Because of this my raid group became very successful and I soon climbed the ranks in my guild to be able to lead my own raid. As raid leader it was now my responsibility to review applicants, schedule raid times, properly discipline tardiness or other infractions, and lead my nine raiders into battle. The multitasking required to perform my role as a healer while also instructing others during the heat of battle proved to be difficult yet rewarding. If one strategy resulted in failure, we would evaluate it and try to formulate an alternative. Nothing beats the sense of reward felt when you finally conquer a challenge that has stumped you countless times prior. My time spent in World of Warcraft as a raid leader taught me valuable lessons in teamwork and leadership. I also learned that even the most coordinated teams cannot survive without a dedicated …show more content…
Our protocol involved placing the mice on a glass table and firing a laser at their hind paws from beneath them. To be consistent the mice had to have all four paws grounded before firing. Needless to say, mice typically do not stay put when testing pain response. We hypothesized that the mice dislike the freezing glass table, so we tried applying a heat lamp to it before testing to promote a more comfortable environment. As a result the mice calmed down, giving us more readings in the narrow time the drug acted for. This was just one of the many examples of problem solving that was used to provide meaningful and consistent data. Constantly experimenting and refining to produce an optimal and easily reproducible experiment with significant results is work I enjoy doing and I hope to be able to continue working on projects similar to this in the
