Water Betters Our Future Care, Health & Society:Focus on Elder Care and Senior Living The world of health care is only growing each day. The amount of care needed for the late baby boomer population is rising and the demand for caretakers is higher than ever. Water has been proven a necessity to live, but it has other important roles as well. Water is also used for medical and therapeutic care. In the elderly population it has been know to decrease stress, help with depression, relieve pain of arthritis and other autoimmune diseases. Also, if in a large amount, water can be used as a form of exercise. Having a senior living facility with these options available help the overall appearance and will attract more people. Water has always been an important necessity that will continue to be needed as long as life exists. When elderly people are unable to care for themselves any longer, or it is at the point where it is unsafe to live alone, is usually the time when family members start discussing future options. They either move in with family or move into an assisted living facility that provides around the clock care. These facilities mimic small …show more content…
Although we need water to survive, we also use water for recreational purposes, sometimes without even realizing it. Water has also been known to help people cope with stress, have a sense of peacefulness, and affect the human body therapeutically (Chan, 2013). By having water be a nearby usable resource , it only betters a living situation (Hoang, 2014). I believe that elderly people would benefit greatly from living on or near a body of water or have access to some sort of pool or spa to use as their leisure. This will help the residents in many aspects and also the family of the elderly by giving them a sense of relaxation know their loved ones are safe and well taken care of. These facilities can do nothing but benefit everyone involved, but they would be nothing without
