Third World Countries Need Our Help
Imagine our country is in great devastation, and there is barely any water for the majority of us due to the current global warming crisis. Our country is undeveloped and not a single person watching chooses to take concern over our dying nation. How would we feel? We would be scared and anxious about the near future. Unfortunately, this is how many third world countries feel today. Currently, they may not be at their highest points of development, but they all still deserve basic human rights. Now with western countries dominating the world through different government systems, equal attention is not provided to the eastern, third world countries. The fact is, places like Syria and India are in devastation

For example, the ISIS attack in Paris was a tragic event that was noted by everyone throughout the media. Even Barack Obama mentioned that it was an attack “on all of humanity and the universal values we share.” It makes sense for such a crisis to be spread worldwide, but what is confusing is that soon after, there was a similar ISIS attack in Beirut, Lebanon, yet it was barely noticed by the west. Even though the people behind the attacks were the same, there was only little immediate aid or sympathy for those who had lost their lives. Anna Lekas Miller, a news writer who lives and works in Beirut asks, “why is violence in one part of the world barely worth news coverage, while violence in another is collectively mourned?”(Anna Lekas Miller). This is not right by any kind of moral standard. It is not just about Beirut either, what about the continuous attacks that occur in Syria and Iraq? This is what we need to focus on, to be attentive about. The morality article ties deeply into this matter of subject because it relates to how morality is a concept easily learned, but is not used enough in the real world. It is understandable that one pays more attention to what happens under their own roof, rather than their neighbor’s, but that does not provide a sufficient reason to completely ignore a conflict occurring in another’s society. As stated in the article, our developed countries know these moralities by heart, yet we still continue to disregard them when it comes to helping others because we insist on elevating self

Presently, media coverage of terrorist attacks, especially domestic attacks, is extensive and may foster a fearful environment if the details are not reported accurately. According to a 2016 Pew Research Center study, 57% of Americans get their news from television, and 38% of Americans get their news online (Mitchell, Gottfried, Barthel & Shearer, 2016). It is vitally important to understand and study how media coverage of domestic terrorism may affect the American…

Before Romero In many ways, El Salvador was no different than many of its South American neighbors during the 1970 's and 1980 's. The oppressive government that existed in El Salvador had much in common with the violent regimes running Argentina, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, and others. Death squads, supported if not organized by the ruling governments, murdered with no fear of reprisal those they saw as enemies of the status quo. However, it was the global setting, not simply a continental one, that made South America a hotbed for violent activity.…

Michael Walzer makes a compelling argument in his article on global crisis, “the Argument about Humanitarian Intervention”. Walzer argues that humans have always been fighting each other and causing global problems. He claims that with today’s technology it has never been simpler to kill large numbers of people, if one has the resources of course. Walzer poses the question that in the event of a humanitarian crisis, such as cases of severe war crimes or ethnic cleansing, to what degree should the rest of the world respond? In Walzer’s article he discusses four major questions.…

In the Human Morality articles, we closely study the themes of support and survival. One of the articles mentions how being a good Samaritan comes second to keeping your own self safe, citing the Princess Diana incident in France. This further proves the point that feasibility must come before the intention of benefitting others, as it must be viable for one (in this case the United States Federal Government),…

The first thought that comes to mind when someone talks about the Cold War most people would think of United State vs. Russia or capitalism vs. communism or the Berlin Wall or something along that line. Not many peoples' outside of the scholar or historian who have studied Latin America would connect the Cold War to Latin America because this was not taught in schools or at least the ones that are run by the United State school system. One of the reasons that this is not taught in the United State schools is because it would not show the country in a favorable light. The United State had done a lot questionable things to Latin American that would consider wrong in many people books; in some cases where they interfered in other countries where…

Jordan Massey Urban Poor and the Great Recession One of the biggest impacts on the urban poor in my lifetime, let alone the last five years is the great recession that started in late 2007, early 2008 because of a housing market correction and a subprime mortgage crisis. We will focus on how the great recession affected the urban poor as it relates to William Julius Wilson’s theory. When the great recession hit in late 2007 and into early 2008 because of the hosing market and subprime mortgage crisis it left many Americans scrambling for work. Business had to cut back and layoff employees to cut costs and many of the middle to lower classes were found jobless.…

Humanity, nowadays, cares nothing for others, only for themselves due to their mentality that is to see only what influences them and believe it is the truth. Elie Wiesel once declared, “When human lives are endangered, when humans dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Where men or women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place- at that moment- become the center of the universe.” Today I am not responding as a student knowledgeable to the unfortunate events, but as a young person of the twenty-first century, Elie Wiesel is indeed correct.…

Latin America generally includes those parts of the Americas where Spanish, French or Portuguese prevail: Mexico, most of Central America, and South America. There is also an important Latin American cultural presence in the United States. The increase in immigration due to more convenient methods of transportation and communication means that modern societies will have to deal with new realities. The new realities that they will have to deal with is the formation of culturally diverse communities.…
