Self Reflective Analysis

Introduction
This essay unravels my journey through the weeks during workshops. I’ll be writing about the relationships between theory, practice and my own personal creative development. As well as reflecting on my own critical analysis of me and theory.
Section one - Documenting individual practice
Firstly the one of the most influential workshops which inspired me in my practices was week one: Self and other. Through the preparation task I developed a text, in the style of a letter which spoke on an event that never happened. Maddy and I both took our texts and found common ground between them. They both began with excitement and lead to disappointment and frustration. Developing on from this we began to play with naturalism, creating

Furthermore what I took from this quote was a self-deprecating view on personal performances as they can be seen as self-indulgent and only one person would be able to connect with the piece. Personally I don’t agree with this quote in this context as theatre can be seen to portrayed experiences to others, whom may have never experience it themselves, Therefore using theatre to educate. This impacted my practice as it renewed my creative thinking into a state of mind which was to always attach a meaning to every movement you create. For example Maddy and I sat holding hands during the time we spoke about how I chose to go out, Maddy lent slightly back to signify how I had the foreground in the convocation and giving undertones of power because I chose to stand her up. A prime example of this is using autobiography to share historical events. ‘‘Soyinka is inscribing his views about his past and what has gone into making him who he is today’’ (Quayson (Swindells, 1995, p. 86) As Quayson mentions in this chapter Soyinka uses his prior historical knowledge and experiences to …show more content…
This has shaped my practices as it has taught me the importance of using your own experiences and story’s to teach an audience as well as entertain. In addition this has also challenged me to investigate verbatim and the ways in which documented language used accurately can also impact and educate an audience.
My second exercise I have encountered on the module that has had the biggest impact on me and my practices was week three: text, image and music. ‘’however, the dominant archive of the one is memory while that of the other is documents’’ (Quayson (Swindells, 1995, p. 86) this quote sums up how combining both memory’s and physical texts can inspire work to have a deeper more sentimental meaning. Beginning this process was rather challenging for me as when we all chose random items and created a collage. From this I struggled to gather

Significant personal events in one’s life can act to influence an individual’s artmaking practice. This is evident through Frida Kahlo’s artwork ‘The Broken Column’ 1944, Jenny Sages ‘After Jack’ 2012 and Christian Thompson ‘King Billy’ 2010. Frida Kahlo, is the first example of such an individual as she experienced a horrible accident causing permanent damage to her spine. As a result of the accident, Kahlo became influenced to paint through using her emotion as a driving force to paint where Kahlo states “I am broken, but I am happy as long as I can paint”. This is depicted in Kahlo’s artwork ‘The Broken Column’ in plate 4 which depicts a figure namely Kahlo herself being pricked by nails with the presence of a broken pillar.…

The artwork Self Portrait As a Nice White Lady by Adrian Piper has influenced my own artwork Timeline in that the concepts, meanings and metaphors found in her artwork are not immediately identifiable. Although there is no influence of Pipers work on mine in terms of process, media or presentation, in this essay I will be discussing the confrontation that viewer experiences when faced with Pipers artwork Self Portrait As a Nice White Lady, my own artwork Timeline, and the ways in which both artworks have underlying concepts. My artwork Timeline are a group of photographic film negatives which have been manipulated by use of paint, sand and tape and further editing in photoshop. Art is all around us, no matter where we go or what we do, there will always be a form of art that is nearby, and as a result of this, art has become one of the most significant aspects of a person’s daily life. In a sense, art is quite like water. It is something that is physical, but the changes that it can embody or bring forth are just like the formlessness of water. Art has become something more than just a work that should be admired, but rather, it has become a medium of speech for the ones that create it. In Dorothy Allison’s “This is Our World”, multiple anecdotes are used to allow the reader to better understand art.…

Introduction Definitions of intelligence vary among scholars, theorists, and laypersons, due to its multidimensionality. However, intelligence typically involves an individual’s ability to learn from experience and adapt to the environment in which they live. I believe that the construct of intelligence should encompass an individual’s ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal form, to think logically, and to express creativity. Two intelligence tests in which I recently had the opportunity to take and score included the Shipley Institute of Living Scale-2 and the Wonderlic Personnel Test.…

    Prompt 13-2: Portfolio

I chose to include prompt 13-2 in this portfolio because I learned the most that week about how little I understand people. I have always been one to try and see things from someone else’s point of view but, after writing that prompt, I realized that I was actually pretty ignorant about how others view problems. There is not one defining event or moment that dictates how one views things rather, it is a messy series of life events that shape the world through each persons’ eyes. Understanding this will help me going forward in that, I will be more thorough in research and also more open minded about what I am researching. I have also learned that just because I am reading or researching one topic, that does not mean it is the only topic within that book or paper.…

This semester we were assigned to write in a journal, or notebook regularly. I may have taken this assignment a bit overboard seeing as I am a distance student and cannot participate in person at the scheduled times. We were suggested to write easch day, a piece that made us feel something. I took this opportunity to not only write daily, but express my thoughts, ideas, opinions, and feelings. I used the book somewhat like an over glorified diary.…

Inadvertently I stumbled upon something that I would take for granted as a refuge. A refuge in which I could express myself, my emotions and transfer them into a visual reality. For once I did not acknowledge the presence of the crutches beside me. Hesitant at first then gradually getting more bold with each sweep of the hand, my depressed state faded away as color expanded across the canvas and replaced itself with one of hunger and awe. This was the day art pulled me by the arm me and forced me to expand its importance in my life.…

It goes without saying that this was a unique experience that forced us to take a task and that we do daily or often and observe it very carefully in order to explore the differences between acting and reality and how to unify the two. Taking a task as simple as making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or cleaning a fish tank and breaking it up into detailed steps was more difficult than I had imagined, but it forced me to put my every day life under the magnifying glass and understand how I do thing and how I change little details in my life in order to fit the situation of the day. To begin with, it was difficult to choose a two-minute task that I knew I could break down fairly easily to show the class that would fulfill all of the expectations…

Reflecting upon the course, I have learned quite an extensive amount about different ways of being creative. I have never really been a creative individual, but this course has really helped me branch out from my comfort zone and learn different ways to be creative. I have learned about my creative process by engaging in the activities and reflections related to the personal creativity log, as well as other course material by concentrating on what I would create for each activity. Learning about my personal creative process was interesting and important to me because it is easy for someone to create something, but when it is something that you have personally created, it means more to you. The personal creativity log activity or reflection most resonated with me and was the most fun to me was creating the jars.…
