Workshop About Anti-Bullying

Superior Essays
This essay will be exploring strategies, research and ideas that I have come across in the process of devising a 30 minute workshop about Anti-Bullying. I will also begin to reflect on future assignments and development that I might have to entail.
We have learned about many techniques and directors to help us along in our work. The two main directors I have focused on are Augusto Boal and Dorothy Heathcote. I have found them both very interesting to study. I have found their ways of study very different to each other, yet still very interesting and helpful.
Augusto Boal was a theatre director. He was most famous for his many techniques. I have three which I will mention; Invisible theatre, image theatre and forum theatre. The technique

I enjoyed learning about this as I found it very interesting and a good way of working with the young people as it helps them be engaged and want to be a part of the workshop. Mantle of the expert was founded in the 1960’s. I will explain how mantle of the ex-pert is used with a group of young people in a workshop. First of all you must have matter of importance that needs to be addressed to the group of young people that you are working with and together you will devise and improvise role-play to find out what has happened and what needs to happen next. The ‘leader’ of the group needs to make sure that everyone that should be involved is getting involved and everything is going according to plan. The ‘leader’ can also come in and out of role whenever it is necessary. They need to make sure that they are motivating the young people. I really enjoy studying Mantle of the expert but there was only one thing that was puzzling me and that was why is it called mantle of the expert? I only found out why when I read one of Heathcote’s books. She simply could not find any other words to describe …show more content…
As a group, we had not accurately finished our piece but we decided that we were going to show the class what we had. We had positive feedback and constructive feedback which is always good. My personal feedback was that the audience would have liked to see more facilitation from me. So as another week went by, we tried to find myself some more facilitation but due to lack of time and space, unfortunately, I had to do what I could. I then in-troduced the piece instead of Becca so that got to interact with the young people a little more than I did in the dress run.
When facilitating, you need to make sure that you are not patronising the young people and you are not leading them in such a big way.

"The teaching artist needs to learn how to facilitate, when to ask probing questions, and how to allow the participants responses to speak for themselves" "the facilitator works with the participants rather than against them" (Taylor: 2003,

The 2011 anti-bullying policy, the Matt Epling Safe School Law, required that every school district develop a policy to address bullying within the school. The law states that schools must ensure bullying is prohibited and have safeguards in place to protect against false reports, as well as the person doing the reporting. The policy must also have appropriate people identified to implement and monitor the procedures, as well as investigate and report (Matt Epling Safe School Law, 2011/2014). The law has very little reach beyond requiring a written policy. There is no requirement in the law for implementation of the policy or the extent to which the policy must be implemented.…

Bullying: Why It Happens The documentary Bully, directed by Lee Hirsch argues that bullying is an on-growing social problem occurring in America that is not receiving the acknowledgment it deserves. The film shows how oblivious adults ignore the issue and classify it as a normality, while also showing a clear insight to the mental and physical abuse kids face everyday. Hirsch supports his argument with his successful use of ethos, logos and pathos by weaving together the stories of five different families who have first hand experience with bullying, making them reliable sources. The directors purpose is to inform the audience on bullying and to create a new realization of this ongoing issue, so kids can rise above and empower one another…

The intent is merely to relay my observations as a concerned participant of the anti-bullying initiatives. Part of this concern has to do with the ‘Bullying’ web page listed under the ‘Supporting You’ tab, in association with ‘Prevention Programs’, listed under ‘Caring & Safe Schools’. The sterility of the language acts as a salve for the victims of bullying. Insomuch, its application leaves a tangible sense promptly exposing the presence of a bully. The sterility potently prevents further aggregation of the bullying culture.…

Firstly, I think it is important to address the problem of bullying that is occurring. This could be achieved by a restorative approach. Rigby (2009) describes that this method “seeks to provide conditions in which the offender will recognize the harm he or she has done and undertake actions to put things right.” This could be achieved by sitting the offender and victim down in a room together with their parents with the aim of resolving the issue and creating a positive relationship. Rigby (2009) describes how the offender is treated with respect by this this community of people but how the feeling of shame is generated by the bully as a result of the discussion with the victim.…

For example, at the beginning of the question session, peer leader would say “hi” to students, which reveals a sense of welcoming questions, so students would willing to ask questions. I found this way would help increase the chance of receiving questions from students. What were specific actions/question performed/asked by the PL that increased student involvement, attention, participation, and thinking?…
