Jay believes that required vaccinations would cost almost $30,000 a year, this is mostly due to high turnover in the industry. The turn over rate is listed at 35-40% (Borden & Cooper, 2002). From what I have found that in the year 2012 the turnover rate for everyone working in an assisted living environment is near 53.5% and CAN’s the not skilled nurses at around 43% (Ozga, 2012). I would estimate that the turnover rate is closer to 45%. This is one of the hardest fields to keep employees. You are asking for hard work, potential heavy lifting, and potential body fluids. I could not find a complete answer to what a CNA makes, but found it to be from low $7 to the mid $20. A CAN spends about 2.5 hours of direct care with residents (Ozga, 2012).
