This firm is quite large, and has offices all around the world. They specialize in areas like employment and labour, intellectual property and dispute resolution and litigation, among others. This was a great opportunity for me to understand how a workplace functions in a corporate setting, which is beneficial because I am interested in the fields of organizational behaviour and human resources. While I was working there, I noticed a few aspects that I really liked about the company, but also I experienced some things that may have needed some improvement. My experience included positive aspects like my manager’s managing style, as well as negative things like poor job design. Taking this course now, allows me to be able to analyse my experience, as well as allowing me to put some of the theories to use. That year, I was doing a lot of basic office work, like making photocopies and looking for certain phone numbers in a stack of paper. I felt like I was able to do so much more, but I was stuck doing mundane tasks, which would often leave me pretty bored. Additionally, since I was only able to do a few tasks, when I would finish, I was often left sitting at my desk with nothing to do. Trinsic Residential Group is unlike an FOE. While the company shares some common aspects of an FOE as described by Raj Sisodia et al. in Firms of Endearment, it lacks a holistic view of its business model and a broad consideration of stakeholders. There are several reasons for its departure from an FOE including; a market focus, availability of resources and the small, disjointed number of employees involved in the company. Over a period of time the company has begun to run more in line with an FOE, but is still a long way from becoming a full-fledged FOE as the authors of Firms of Endearment define them.…

Introduction Definitions of intelligence vary among scholars, theorists, and laypersons, due to its multidimensionality. However, intelligence typically involves an individual’s ability to learn from experience and adapt to the environment in which they live. I believe that the construct of intelligence should encompass an individual’s ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal form, to think logically, and to express creativity. Two intelligence tests in which I recently had the opportunity to take and score included the Shipley Institute of Living Scale-2 and the Wonderlic Personnel Test.…

Throughout this semester we have discussed and practiced various techniques that can be used when working with clients. This semester at Loyola has enhanced my understanding of what it truly means to be a social worker, from the classroom perspective. In my field placement, I do not believe it is directly related to social work, but I was able to use a social worker perspective when interacting with the children in the program. This course was the only course that provided me with hands-on experience of engaging with different types of clients. In my other classes, we did not do case demonstrations instead, we discussed different theories and perspectives about individuals and family systems.…

As my next customer approaches the register, I glance at the time, “thank God,” I thought, noticing only one hour until my shift ends. Although it was only my third day on the job, the multitude of mistakes that only I could possibly make crippled me as I dreaded what could happen with the nearing customer. Her walk and talk communicates an air of arrogance, and her curt response to my question, “How are you today?” affirmed this. Thankfully, I completed the transaction, managing to make the small talk that is expected of me, but my uneasiness apparantly alarms the customer who looks doubtful at my actions. I hand her cash back, only to be notified that I had forgotten her change amid the jumble of bills, bags, and the receipt.…
