Pleasing and Fulfilling

“I could never stay long enough on the shore; the tang of the untainted, fresh, and free sea air was like a cool, quieting thought.” This quote from Helen Keller accurately describes my perfect writing workplace. Keller pinpoints the greatness of a day spent by the ocean. Sitting in a beach chair with waves washing up against my toes provides the ideal escape to capture and record my thoughts. Although the atmosphere of the beach is practically paradise, I cannot realistically write there for every assignment. Unfortunately, this blissful destination is not near my home. To cope, I must bring the pleasing conditions to my current workplace, my room. In an effort to mimic the perfection of a desolate beach,

With the right setting, I am most engaged and focused. When sitting by the water, the warmth of the sun shines down, kissing my skin. I can recreate the same affect in my current writing area. I peacefully sit by a window and let the sun’s rays illuminate me, like a spotlight projecting on center stage. While resting in my chair at the ocean, I enjoy the sound of seagulls circling above my head and calling out to each other, as if in some foreign language. To bring this to my room, I unlatch and raise the windows, letting the sounds of nature flood my quiet abode. The echoes, not of seagulls, but of happy robins bring joy to my ears. Oak trees whisper to one another as their leaves rustle in the wind. As day turns to night, the crickets began their melodious chirping. These sounds all blend together to help engage in my topic. The beach also consists of one of my most beloved smells, the aroma of salt carried in by a calm breeze. The refreshing smell of salt is present in my room by igniting the flame of my favorite candle, “Sea Island Breeze.” As rain on a sleepy child’s window provides a setting for the perfect nap, creating a tropical paradise in the comforts of my home provides for a perfect …show more content…
Both at the beach and at home, after carefully composing my essay for hours, my brain is in need of a break. I resemble a runner in need of a rest be completing the long and dwindling race. I often require time to reflect and refresh between writing sessions. At the beach, I enjoy leaving my project and taking a calm stroll on the tightly packed sand. I release all the withheld energy and brainstorm my next writing session. Although sand between my toes in not an option at my current writing area, I can take a walk in my quiet and tranquil neighborhood. I stroll along under, not palm trees, but lofty oak trees reminding me of tall men lined for battle. I watch squirrels play tag as they scamper to every branch. The aroma of honeysuckle vines winding their way around the fence post delights my nose. By walking in this familiar place, it provides a way to release energy and think. After the feeling of renewal refreshes me, I bolt back to my desk to begin yet again. I resemble an artist, determined to finish his long-awaited masterpiece. The satisfaction after a break, at either the beach or home, in a soothing atmosphere, gives me motivation to push on till the

I never really appreciated those moments of calm before they became rarer than diamonds. Most people don’t understand the little things that make their lives better, brighter, until they aren’t there to do it anymore. Maybe that stranger smiling at you brightened up your day without you knowing, and maybe that piece of art made it easier to relax in that room.…

Often times we talk to individuals about their favorite vacation spot or where the place they feel the most at rest is; the response we get most often is the ocean. This is because the ocean is restorative. The quiet roar of the waves, the sound of seagulls chirping, the salty breeze, the ocean is a place of peace. For many the sea is not just a vacation destination, but the sea is a friend. Something that is consistent, and always listening.…

Buninybah We build their cities, we run their machines, we fight their wars. We are nothing more than fuel; fuel that powers the elite; the elite that hide behind their logos of corporations. This is their world and their most valuable resource is not in the ground; it is us. After all, money is not what drives them, its power; money is simply the tool they use to control us; worthless pieces of paper we depend on to move, feed and entertain ourselves.…

The idea of being told that I had to work for the first time made me want to eat glass; but could it possibly have turned out for the better? In England, when you reach 10th grade you participate in a nationally accepted program called 'Work Experience'. ' Work Experience' is when you work just like you would if you were legally an adult except with this program it only lasts a week. After 2 weeks of tireless searching I landed a job at Ariya Capital; an experienced developer and investor in clean energy and infrastructure projects throughout sub-Saharan Africa. It was actually much more advanced than any job I ever thought of getting.…

I love to go to beaches and relax, swim, and have fun. All of the different things that I brought up in this poem are a part of who I am. Because of the many versatile factors brought up in the poem, like “pictures and scrapbooks”, I grouped my stanzas as different topics, such as memories and my past. To further this,…

Common Themes of Despair in Fahrenheit 451 and “Dover Beach” In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury uses the poem Dover Beach to portray sadness in a society without books. Guy Montag reads this poem in an attempt to get Mildred or one of her friends to realize their own unhappiness. Fahrenheit 451 is written with the same tone and melancholy that Matthew Arnold first felt and showed through his poem, Dover Beach. It speaks to the heart and insinuates many deep and truthful thoughts that invade deep into readers’ minds.…

During April of 2015, I stepped out of the car and onto the beach for the first time in Destin, Florida; the salty sea stung my nose as I breathed in a refreshing breath of briny air. The first step onto the sand was like a bed of blankets; soft and comfortable. The way the white sand glided onto my feet and squished between my toes felt like heaven. The waves were singing a delicate lullaby, pulling me closer to them. As I walk towards the ocean with the warm sand beneath my feet, the cold waves lap at my ankles, as if they want to take me away.…

It is a cool winter’s day in Pullman Washington. A breeze rushes through the open windows and tickles my neck, causing goose bumps to rise on my skin. I pull out a piece of thin white paper from my desk, and prepare myself for the task at hand. This article is, in my opinion, an example of how personal narrative can sometime confuse the author’s purpose. In order to frame her arguments she discussed her experiences with her family, and specifically how she was born a twin to a stillborn sister. She explains her families lack of coping and how her family effected her life, but I failed to focus on the overarching idea that she wanted to get out because of how distracting the stories from her personal life are. Instead found myself thinking that her story was strangely personal without much justification for why it was this way. While the point of her article, the balance between truth and respect, was somewhat present overall, the sections of personal narrative that she decided to include muddled it.…
