I noticed several engineering controls that stood out to me. I noticed that the crane has guardrails, hand holds, and steps that provided an easy and safe way to access the crane. I also noticed that electrical cords were covered to prevent any accident from happening. The crane also prevented workers from lifting heavy objects. Some methods of administrative controls that I observed were that they rotated job schedules in order to limit the amount of time an individual is working. I also noticed that workers guided each other when operating the crane and working in hazardous areas. Luckily, I found that all the workers used head protection in the construction zone. I also observed that some workers wore safety glasses when cutting, nailing, and placing objects. Workers wore boots that could prevent anything happening to their feet if any heavy objects or equipment fell. Throughout the site, I found that there were many elevated surfaces that were carefully labeled and stated the load capacity. All elevated surfaces had a means of entry and exit that had handrails. Workers also wore gloves to protect their hands from anything from happening. The construction zone was completely covered with fences and signs that stated gloves, eye wear, and a hard that must be worn past the fence. All of these measures help to reduce the risk of any hazards from …show more content…
The site was completely covered with fences which protects the pedestrians as well as the workers from any hazards that may occur. I also believe that there were many administrative, engineering, and personal protective equipment methods that were implemented throughout the site to keep exposures or the risk of a hazard as low as possible. However, this new building is very tall, and many workers used scaffolds and were conducting their work on elevated services. Falls account for the greatest number of fatalities in the construction industry (United States Department of Labor, 2005). I believe that by using guardrails, safety nets, covers and restraint systems, and fall arrest systems could prevent any injuries from occurring. Overall, I believe that this site was fairly safe, and many precautions were taken to minimize any hazards from
