I also did my observational assignment at a mall. Most of my observations were quite similar to most of yours. I also observed many females who seemed unconcerned about a lack of personal space. Males were the direct opposite. When talking to females, the males comfort zone appeared to be dependent on how well they knew the other person. When speaking with another male, they appeared to demand a larger amount of personal space. This would confirm Galanes and Adams (2013) when they state that males quite often require a larger personal space than females and females tolerate being crowded more than males. Perhaps when one male speaks to another, they feel like they are less masculine if they are too close to another male.

Throughout the entire semester, I incorporated evidence based practice into my clinical days. Whether if I was performing a skill or if I was observing my nurse do a skill, I was thinking is this evidence based. I observed nurses use water instead of alcohol to clean an area on the skin before pricking a patient’s finger for a blood glucose check; this I knew was evidenced based. Some none evidence based thing that I observed were using 5/8inch needles when the nurse should have been using a 1inch length or not using two hands when assessing a patient’s fundus. I met my midterm goal of telling the nurse nicely that this is not what we learned in school.…

I noticed that as people walked passed me and the person I was talking to they stared and I felt the judgment from just the looks on their faces. I felt as if the mall made me feel more judged because of the difference of environments. The people at Target seemed more willing to take time to talk to you than the people at the mall. Majority of the people either ignored me altogether or seemed really confused when I broke personal space.…

When we fail to comply with certain standards, which are put in place by society we are often shunned from those who choose to comply with these values. After observing different social settings as well as the expected behavior in those settings I choose to focus my attention on ordering etiquette in fast food restaurants. In each of the fast food restaurants I observed in both the Hub and along downtown East College Avenue I noticed three elements of expected behavior. The first was to place an order to your cashier in first person. The second, consumers were expected to pay for their purchases.…

According to psychologist Bruce Dorval, at every age girls and women faced each other making direct eye contact. While boys and men of all ages sat at angles to each other and looked at things within the room (Tannen 283). Therefore, the tendency for men to face away from women gives the impression that they are not listening even when they are. Also, girls, talk at length about one topic while boys seem to jump from one topic to the next. These conversational habits are as frustration to men as they are to women.…

Continuing the research topic from last data collection assignment, I will further investigate on how people in real life actually memorize and remember their ancestors, and different family traditions and customs to sacrifice their ancestors by utilizing the participant observation and the observation research methods. I recalled the memories of my personal experience during last August when I was engaging in my grandmother’s worship, which applied to both the participant observation and the observation research methods. On the one hand, for the participant observation, I would like to share what my family members did during my grandmother’s worship. Introduction and Purpose Systematic social observation (SSO) has been used to study “physical, social, and economic characteristics of neighborhoods” and subsequently aid in the identification and construction of “profiles of community processes” ("ICPSR-SSO," n.d.; Sampson & Raudenbush, 1999). An observational study of this type is mostly unobtrusive, and, by its nature, avoids pitfalls, that might detract from uncovering new knowledge, such as “reactivity between researcher and participant,” and bias related to a “tendency of certain kinds of people participating in certain projects” (Aurini, Heath, & Howells, 2016, p. 162-164). An important consideration, however, is that an unobtrusive approach allows for “seeing the world view in a different way” (Aurini et al., 2016, p. 164). Participant observation, a social inquiry tool and data collection method used in qualitative research, allows researchers to “learn things that people may be unwilling to discuss in an interview,” and “see things that routinely escape the awareness of the participant using a different method” (Bryant, n.d., 8).…
