How To Improve Workplace Motivation

When searching for ways to keep businesses running efficiently, managers must look at all aspects of morale and motivation. At times, it is easy to be discouraged as an employee or a manager. Incentives to do better aren’t always the right answer. (Workplace Motivation) There are three characteristics to consider when analyzing how to improve motivation and drive. These characteristics are autonomy, mastery, and purpose. These three aspects are the most important when workforce morale is in question and management is trying to improve productivity.

When one controls self-management, this is known as Autonomy. In a work environment, even while being managed closely, you can still achieve autonomy by being disciplined in self-management. Given space to still get the task finished while still having the freedom to do things your own way helps create an environment for new ideas and techniques. When given motivation in a work environment, employees are more willing to work towards higher production and looking for ways to improve their skills. The employees feel valued to the business rather than just a disposable employee that can easily be replaced. (The Importance of Motivation) A sense of purpose comes from understanding that you are on a journey. You may not reach it in the next few days. Purpose may take months or years to achieve. I found purpose in my life by taking a leap and registering for college to get a degree. I was nervous about coming back to college after so many years of not taking any courses but I knew I wanted a career and to better myself for my children. I want to maximize skills that I have learned to show my children that no matter when you start on a goal, it can be done if they are determined enough to fight for
