There were a couple workplace issues that prompt Emma to consider unionization. When Emma started to work at Patty’s she noticed how unfair people are being treated examples were favouritism, unstable hours and sexual harassment. When Patty’s got a new head manager from there everything went down hill. Some issues were cutting employee hours. Dale targeted the single mom employees who really needed this job. For example there was a scene in the movie when he was in the office with some of the single moms letting them know that he’s going to be cutting their shifts. Her friends were arguing that this union drive is very unusual and what if the other managers hear about this. Another argument was what if Dale fires everyone who are trying to help Emma form this union against Patty’s some of the workers just didn’t want to risk anything. This is when Emma and her best friend Zoe start do distant each other and form different cliques. One argument Zoe made was when herself and Emma were shopping together. Emma noticed Zoe really had no more interest in this union race anymore. Zoe reacted very angry about how boring and the dedication it takes to form a union. He really cares about Emma going to school and getting good grades is a better than trying to stick your nose into something you have no idea about. He also said its a lot of work organization a union, knowing this because he organizes unions himself and he knows the dedication and STRESS that comes along with it. When he found out that Emma formed a union he notices that her grades are slipping and she hasn’t been going to class as frequently as she use to before. He becomes very less supportive and forbids Emma to go through with this union drive. There was a scene in the movie when Emma father was speaking to her about how disappointed he was in her and initially wants her to see the big picture on how important education is. He just puts her down knowing that this union drive is not going to win because people have been working on unions in fast food restaurants for years and it fails over and over
