After conducting interviews on four different experienced workers, I came to be very interested by my findings. I noticed several different theories that could be used with the workers that I chose to interview. After interviewing two male football coaches, a retiree and a ten-year elementary teacher, I not only realized that multiple theories can be used on one person. I also realized that most of my associates are in the same field of work and the same personality styles. The first person I interviewed was my co-worker Jerry Elledge. When asking Jerry about his career development I realized that Jerry did things within the same field and they were mainly based on his particular personalities and that represent their …show more content…
Colin Merritt began to tell me about his career development and I immediately saw a difference between the two. After interviewing Colin, I personally believe he is misplaced as a teacher. He said in his eyes career planning is continuing to learn your craft. Whether through education or trade schools or whatever industry a person is in, continue to better yourself. He said he thinks career advancement includes those same aspects, but also some very basic attributes: show up on time, keep a positive attitude (no one wants to listen to others whine, we all have problems), do your job plus a bit extra if needed without whining, be confident in yourself and your abilities, and always be willing to learn. He finished his answer stating, “The more you know, the more valuable you are, not only to your company but to yourself as well”. What Mike was saying makes perfect sense, your company is not going to want to promote you if you do not have positive traits.…

HOLLAND’S THEORY: According to Gelso and Fretz (as cited in Nauta, 2010) “Helping people make career decisions have been fundamental to counseling psychology since its emergence as a profession, and it continues to be central to its identity today”. John Holland theorized a concept which would be used to help people find their own career interests, make their own career decisions, find how to obtain information about the career and how to structure their career education (Schreuder & Coetzee, 2016). “Holland’s theory was so predictive that there was little room for anything else after it. He speculated correctly about the “taxonomy” (classification domains) of work environments, which effectively enabled him to organize all the existing jobs…

I find such structured games to be boring, and I’m not good at them, I prefer games that have a story-telling element. I also like card games that require speed and pattern recognition, like peanuts and Egyptian war. I am very logic oriented, which is common for INTPs.…
