Workplace Bullying

Linda Bond Edwards is a graduate of Florida State University Law School with a focus on Labor & Employment Law. She focuses on the topic of workplace bullying and cites the workplace bullying’s definition of workplace bullying as the systematic campaign that destroys health, career, and one’s job. A majority of Mrs. Edwards’s presentation was focused on workplace bullying. A point that was made throughout the presentation was that workplace bullying is not illegal. She provided the example of a boss who is just rude to everyone and how that is not illegal as he does not target a specific group. Once a situation at work escalates in discrimination, then legal action can be taken. The aspect of this presentation that I learned the most from is the legal side of workplace such as the two types of lawsuits that are on the rise. In a more diverse country increasing numbers of different nationalities are entering the workplace. This leads to the rise of natural origin claims which claim that there is discrimination against the country that an employee originated from, which is quite different than one would expect. One would expect that it would be based on color due to the past history of the United States, although perhaps a rise in natural origin claims could be due to Americans feeling as though they are part of the greatest country in the world and any other nations are inferior to ours. This would eventually lead to the belittling of a foreign nation which would cause a claim. Another major point was describing what a workplace bully could look like, which include a former background as a playground bully. The comparison continue with the statement that they tend to have lower self-esteems to make their self-worth increase. Men are not the only workplace bullies, as women also have
