Since joining LDPT I have seen my confidence grow more and more after being exposed to many situations. I have enjoyed dealing with a variety of incidents and feel I have been able to use my knowledge gained from the college and put it into action. Whiles increasing the speed of my work I believe I haven’t lost any quality. Also I felt that at the start of joining my admin and paperwork would be my weakness. I have managed to work on this and with help from tutors I feel I have improved on this to a standard where I feel is appropriate. I feel the more I do certain things the better my ability will be which is already showing. I feel one of my strength is traffic related incidents, whether it is RTC’s or traffic offences. When dealing with these issues my confidence can be seen with through the whole of the job. I have dealt with a number of RTC’s and dealt with the full incident alone. I have also been allocated RTC’s to investigate which was good learning development as it allowed me to learn the balance of a workload. I need to make sure that I keep onto of my workload and if I am issued task, I action and complete them in good time and if I am not able to then make sure that supervisors are aware. I need to make sure that I keep up with tasks and not allow my workload to keep increasing. I have presented my as professional at all times to members of public and maintained a level of support they needed. I now know that some incidents we attend there will be no further action and you have to be honestly and tell the victim that but I realise on the other hand, it is important it is to reassure them.
My presentation to member of public and colleagues is crucial as it will decide how people will see me. I make sure that I arrive at work early to prepare for the day and do anything I need to before the shift starts. I always make sure my appearance is smart and is up to the correct standards because it is how members of public will perceive me and the force.
Over the past 12 weeks there hasn’t been a single shift where decision making hasn’t been a key part. Every incident that I have attended has needed some form of decision whether it was big or little. This can be shown from the decision of making an arrest at a scene, as I have to make sure that I have looked at all the appropriate options and that an arrest is necessary.
