Working in the jail environment can be difficult because of how many inmates go through the jail because some many be there temporarily while they wait to be transferred to prison (Pollock, 2017). Since these inmates do not stay for long and the large number of inmates passing through, it’s difficult for officers to learn about them (Pollock, 2017). Jails pose a higher potential for smuggling and the inmates are under a large amount of stress when they enter the facility (Pollock, 2017).
