Working In Groups

Improved Essays
Working in groups is a difficult thing, everyone has varying opinions on how things should be done and no one can ever meet at the same time. It is a challenging process just trying to get all group members to meet and once you do there is always the chance that one person changes their mind or forget, this results in slowing down the group and overall just making people annoyed. While working in my group I noticed several different concepts that had been discussed within the class occur in my group. My group consisted on three other individuals, Vanessa, Tayler, and Kevin. I had never met Tayler or Kevin before and had only had Vanessa in one other class that was over a year ago so we basically had begun as strangers and our communication reflected as much. I was very uneasy working in a group as I typically am an independent worker and relying on other has never been something that I have been fond of. While this group project may have started on the wrong foot it ended up opening my eyes to the way groups interact and allowing me a way to potentially better future group experiences. …show more content…
There are two situations where this occurred. The first is when deciding who would do what, I was originally given just the conclusion. I felt that it was really not that much to do, so after I expressed my concerned Vanessa had suggested that I help with the activity in order to give me a fair amount of speaking time. The other situation that came up was when it came to picking a video. Originally Vanessa had picked a video, and Tayler seemed to like the video, I however felt that the video did not really relay the message as clearly so I found another video. After showing the team the video and asking for their input we decided to change the

The main challenge of this group situation is that there was a sudden rise of conflict among members at the beginning to mid phase of the project. This resulted the possible development of groupthink (Janis, 2008). As a leader in this situation, I would firstly feel lousy and disappointed in myself that I didn’t take note of group’s division and how the meeting could be more inclusive of everyone’s opinion (Chadha, 2016). However, at that point, I would also probably feel confused but yet curious as to why it was suddenly voiced out, hence thought that I should facilitate to explicit the thoughts and feelings of each member to better understand as well.…

    Group Work Evaluation

Why would you conduct an evaluation of the group work? I would conduct an evaluation of the group work to ensure quality work is being conducted. The reason for that is because if I am a leader or even just a group member I want to make sure that the group is being productive. If the group is not being effective then they need to find out why they are not being and effective and make some modification to the groups work so that they can be productive. Some other reason to evaluate a group work is to improve leadership skills, demonstrate the usefulness of a group/group work service to agency/funding source, or community and to satisfy workers curiosity.…

Appendix 1: Working Individually and Collaboratively During this practical I have had to work collaboratively with my partner during the experiment and individually while writing this practical report. While conducting the investigation, I had to work with my partner in a safe and considerable manner to allow the experiment to be completed safely. The person that I was collaborating with poured the hydrogen peroxide solution into the measuring cylinder with the liver it and marked the froth volume, while I timed the whole procedure. We both kept an eye out on the temperatures of the water baths and the temperature of the kidney and solution inside the test tubes so that one person didn’t have to watch all of them.…

The group project felt important to me, because it gave me a chance to present a topic that was meaningful to me. The topic of my group’s project was anti-racism in protest songs, and showing how many artists took to the stage with their thoughts of equality, attempting to change the way that some people are perceived in this nation. Preparing this project didn’t go without stress or challenges though. My group partners, despite my persistent nagging, procrastinated until the last minute to get any work done, and even though there were five of us in my group, only two people did any significant work on the presentation. As the deadline for the presentation was growing closer, I knew that it was time to act.…

In high school, we were constantly being told that we could not work in groups because we would get too loud. In university group work was encouraged so that our professors wouldn't have to do as much marking. During my observations at my CSL there was a lot of group work. Comparing when the students were working on group work to their individual work, the results were polar opposites. The tasks for students was to write down what they knew about 5 sided figures.…

For me the activity of working as a group especially with other individuals who I have not worked with or talked to before was a good learning experience that had both positive and negative outcomes using Driscoll’s model of reflection as a frame work to elaborate on how I interpreted what happened, what impact the situation had on me and what I will do in the future if presented with a similar situation (Driscoll and Teh, 2001). We were required to do a 10 minute presentation for a health promotion project that we developed. I decided to work with other individuals who I didn’t know and have not worked with before as I believed I would be more productive and respectful if I worked with people I didn’t know very well. For the first tutorial…

My experience has been interesting, positive, and at the same time rewarding. My very first experience with working in group was couple of years ago during a final year project, in my country of birth. The project was in community medicine, and involved repeated trip to a rural community by my group to access their health status, and needs. We had many challenges, but overcame them all as a group. I learnt the act of collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making by consensus building, and most importantly; comradeship.…

During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. For example, Lexi is the leader of the group and Camille is the worker bee meaning that she is the one to go to for the information about the presentation. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A low point was when the video couldn’t load and we had to start from scratch again.…

Group work is very different than what I am use to. I am use to working on projects alone and knowing where I stand. I have always been a shy person and have relied on myself for anything I am working on in school. This particular project really brought me out of my comfort zone and showed me it is okay to ask for help. Marvin Wright's Family Literacy Night was different to say the least.…

For this week’s assignment, I must write about an experience I had where I was in a group situation, and after the conversation was finished, I was left feeling that “we were just not communicating.” While my family sat for dinner, the conversation seemed to turn sour. My oldest son, 10years old at this time, frequently spoke in a disrespectful tone with me. If we’d talk about how school went that day, or how he was choosing to study for an upcoming test, he would seem to act defensively, and his tone of voice would turn angry. I found myself in a situation where I tried to defend myself, and encourage the male individuals to see that the boy’s behavior was unreasonable.…
