Working and Study is not a good combination Most parents believe that it is beneficial for the teenager working a part-time job while they are attending to school. According to Etzioni 's essay, Working at McDonald’s, state that students become bad influence by working on fast food restaurants like McDonald. One of the disadvantages to working and study at the same time is that students could do no attend classes regularly because the student after work can feel tired and with no energy to do the school work. Another disadvantage could be a student who is working could experience high levels of stress. Sometimes they have to work extra hours that make the student feel tired with low motivation to continue with their education. According to the article, “McDonald’s is bad for your kids. I do not mean the flat patties and the white-flour buns; I refer to the jobs teenagers undertake, mass-producing these choice items”. (pg249) In my own experience, when I was working at BK (Burger King) most of the time I have to stay to work extra hours or until the restaurant closed it, and after that, I just want to go straight home and take a rest. But, because I was taking night classes I need to go to school and was not a good idea to work because I began to no pay attention to the lectures. According to one of my psychology class that I took last quarter, I learned that having a job affects the student life because by splitting the responsibilities between school and work eventually can cause high stress of levels in the student live. In the long run, those students can experience more help problem related with stress than a student who doesn’t work. Stress is a serious issue especially in this time because it is affecting more and more young people each year. Being at the age it is difficult because the high school students are trying to figure out their personalities. Adding stress is not a good option because it could affect their self-esteem. By losing motivation and believing they can not achieve anything like a good career. Having low motivation especially at the age can have a negative impact on students’ life by them choosing a wrong path. They are vulnerable and can start consuming drugs and alcohol in order to release and forget the stress they are feeling. One of my friends had that experience he was working in a retail store and made him a manager adding more responsibilities to his life. At first, he was doing okay with balancing work and school but as soon as he became the manager, he starts to loose motivation to do school work. Losing motivation affected his self-esteem and began to go out more and party three to four times
